Choosing a Therapeutic Mouthwash By Robert Madden
Introduction• With a DDS and MBA, Robert Madden heads
Southwest Family Dentistry, a dental practice located in the area of Denver, Colorado. As a dentist at the practice, Dr. Robert Madden helps patients with various tooth- and gum-related concerns, as well as advises patients on proper oral hygiene.
While many poeple are well aware of a toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss being important tools in person’s regular routine to ensure healthy teeth and gums, some are not aware that mouthwash is another important tool.
Therapeutic Mouthwash• However, with so many different types of
mouthwash available on the market, people may be unsure what type is most beneficial. In fact, many types of mouthwash provide little benefit to a person’s oral health, and simply serve to make a person’s mouth smell fresh and feel clean. On the other hand, consumers can find therapeutic mouthwashes, or those designed to help prevent common dental problems.
Therapeutic mouthwashes contain different key ingredients, depending on the their purpose.
Conclusion• For example, fluoride is an ingredient in
mouthwashes designed to help prevent cavities. It works by helping to make tooth enamel stronger, and therefore teeth less prone to decay. Mouthwashes might also contain antibacterial components such as triclosan, which is designed to prevent plaque from building up on the teeth. When choosing a mouthwash, it is best to choose one with the seal of the American Dental Association on it, which shows that the mouthwash has been analyzed by dental experts and shown to work.
