Paronychia is a skin infection that infects the nail fold. In this case the nail will appear

as swollen and inflamed. The infection needs attention and while still many people who

get infected tend to be ignorant about it, they are only exposing themselves to more

danger and may even make it worse. Although some small infections and something

different may appear to look as Paronychia, it sometimes is not.

Here are some symptoms that one should look for before confirming that it is

Paronychia.

There are several causes that act as symptoms to paronychia which includes a

throbbing pain, reddening and feeling of warmth on the skin that is around the infected

area. In some instances, one may experience forming of pus in the infected part or

under the skin. Also it is notable to appear only to one nail as it has been seen in many

cases.

It is also good to know the causes that bring about the infection so that one can stay

away from it or do things that can help stay away from it. Below are some of the most

notable causes that bring about the Paronychia infections.

Bacteria

Bacteria are one of the major causes that bring about the infections mostly in the acute

paronychia. The best way to avoid the bacteria causing the infection is to maintain

good hygiene and also keeping the nails dry and avoiding keeping them moistly.

Candida causes

This is common fungus type yeast that is well known and causes the infection in most

cases. The nail fold with this yeast tends to grow slowly as it gets wet and the fungus

accumulates. They however do not cause pus like in the case of bacterial infection.

Germs and microbes

This is also a well known and common cause. The infection builds up where there are

germs and dirty parts of the feet especially. This is however the easiest one to avoid

since maintaining good hygiene alone will keep it away. It is therefore important to keep

them clean and dry at all times to prevent the paronychia infections.
