Nobody wants to think about bad things happening, especially do a child, but they do.

In the U.S. alone there are over 90,000 people a year saved by CPR. Although, there are many who don’t receive the aid they need.

The basic process of CPR involves a combination of breaths and chest compressions.

Rescue Breaths involve breathing into the mouth of person needing assistance.

Chest compressions involve applying heavy, pulsing pressure to the chest to help circulate blood.

Adult CPR Versus Infant CPR

Adult CPR Infant CPR

Check to make sure person is breathing first. If not, call 911.

Typically infants may be choking on something.

Adults are often suffering from cardiac arrest, whereas children may not be. Call 911 immediately, if you can.

Pay extra attention to the airway, and make sure it is clear.

The ratios of compressions are different between adults and children.

It is always better to do something, rather than not trying at all, however, taking a CPR class is recommended for

those who may have forgotten/never received proper training.

Approximately 100,000-200,000 lives are lost every year because CPR isn’t performed early enough.

Only 1/3 of out of hospital cardiac arrest patients receive CPR before the ambulance arrives. The 1/3 that did receive CPR doubled their chances for survival.

Hundreds of children die or are hospitalized for choking every year.

Why It Matters

Most accidents happen in the home, and just because you have a cell phone handy, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be prepared.

Without assistance brain damage is possible within 4 minutes, likely after 6 minutes, and brain death is expected after ten minutes.

A well CPR trained population is what we can all hope for.
