Generational Changes, Inc. " CHANGING LIVES ONE DAY AT A TIME"

Mission:

Generational Changes has a mission to provide treatment, intervention and

prevention programs to adolescents and adults seeking counseling and recovery. Our

services are designed to guide families toward change, independence, self efficiency and

productivity. Our goal is to stabilize the lives of families by providing therapeutic

counseling, treatment for alcohol and substance abuse, and mentoring in order to affect

future generations. Generational Changes seeks to change, prevent, detect, and eliminate

barriers that impede on progress.

Geographic Community

Predominately serves the West and Southwest region of Fresno

4 sights located on P. Street, Bond Ave., Merced St. and Fresno St; all located within a 10 mile radius.

Income

Median household income is approximately $21,000 which is well below County median

Median household income in Fresno is approximately $40,000

Transportation Public transportation is the main mode of transportation for

agencies consumers.

Due to age of clients as well as income level of consumers families financial situation.

Demographics

Ethnicity Hispanics account for more the 50% of the population

African-Americans account for approximately 8-10% of population

Caucasians make up about 25% of population

Remaining 15% is comprised of many other ethnic groups including Asians, Middle-Eastern , Pacific Islanders as well as individuals who identify with two or more ethnic backgrounds.

Stats were compiled by using averages from the 3 different zip codes where services are offered.

Approximately 60% of population are High School graduates

30% of the population attended high school but did not graduate

8% of the population received an AA or Bachelors degree

The remaining 2% acquired Graduate degrees

Community Involvement

Generational Changes main involvement with the community is with the services that they offer to the adolescents within the community.

They work in conjunction with 3 charter schools within the community (Carter G. Woodson, WEB Duboise and New Millennium Institute of Education.

To remain compliant with rules and regulations, Generational changes works closely with Alcohol and Drug Advisory Board of Fresno County, California Department of Social Services as well as California Department of Education.

Services Provided

Generational changes offers many therapeutic and non therapeutic services to adolescents as well as adults.

The therapeutic services offered are comprised of individual as well as group counseling concerning such topics as

Crisis Intervention and Child Abuse Substance and Chemical Dependency Treatment Services Marriage and Family Therapy Treatment of Specialty Behaviors Such as ADHD, Autism, and

Defiant Behaviors Anger Management Therapeutic Groups Specialty Treatment for Expelled Students Meeting the Guidelines

to Successfully Complete Term of Expulsion. Social Development

Non Therapeutic services that Generation Changes offers are: Dropout Prevention Services Academic Tutoring Employment Readiness Vocational and Job Training Referrals Housing Referrals Clothing and Food Assistance * The majority of services offered are free of charge to the

consumer as long as they are eligible for Medi-Cal. A sliding fee scale is used for all consumers that are not eligible for Medi-Cal.

Organizational Structure

Generational Changes is a for-profit organization

It has no board of directors, but is owned by one individual who is the CEO of the company.

The second in command is the Program Director.

Below the Program Director are several counselors who are at the school sites who work with the clients.

There are also two full time support staff employees.

The Program Director oversees the counselors, support staff as well as the interns.

The company is relatively small with 12 employees.

All accounting and bookkeeping services are outsourced to an accounting firm.

Role of Client

Generational Changes is a for-profit organization that offers several services to consumers.

The role of the client in this organization is that of a recipient of a service that he/she has paid for.

The services that are offered are therefore tailor made for each client to ensure they are receiving the proper services that they have requested.

As with any for-profit organization, the client must be serviced properly to ensure the company remaining in business.

Organizational function

• Generational Changes is a non-discriminatory organization that offers its services to individuals regardless of their age, race, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.

• Much emphasis is put on treating each client as a unique individual, trying to understand their ideas and point of view. Being cultural aware and competent is an important factor in being able to accomplish this

• Empowering the client is the ultimate goal of any individual or group counseling session. To help them understand that they have the power and ability to make healthy choices that will help them succeed in life.

Agency Abroad

An agency based in a London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames has a organization called YES (Youth Enquiry Services)

They provide services to adolescents who are displaying, presenting or becoming involved in ‘risky behaviour’.

The organization is similar in the services that it offers but the difference is that it is a non-profit organization.

The goal with Yes as with Generational changes is not necessarily abstinence, but rather building skills to ensure healthy decision making.

The majority of the cliental are minorities, comprised of adolescents of African, Pakistani and Indian descent.

Agency Abroad Cont’d

The structure of Yes is very different than Generational Changes.

It is a government funded organization that is comprised of Counselors, Social Workers and Psychologists.

There was no mention of a Board of Directors or one individual who is responsible for the organization.

The project will aim to develop young people’s skills and knowledge and ensure that they develop resilience and increase protective factors to make safe informed choices.
