Haiti created a cadre of CHWs after the 2011 earthquake as an approach to strengthen their health system.

Management of CHWs in Nigeria is highly

decentralized, and community health

policies date back to the 1970’s.

Each of Ethiopia’s health extension workers serves a population of

approximately 2,500

Tanzania has four different community health cadres.

Across India, there are

>850,000 ASHAs who make up one of the country’s three CHW cadres.
