DESCRIPTION
Our team believes an effective way to bring core concepts of Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring ("Caring Science") alive at the bedside is to define a "bundle" of distinct caring behaviors. Three main constructs have been identified: Intentionality, the Transpersonal-Caring Relationship and Human Dignity. Video will be the primary format to capture and share each bundle.

A Bouquet of Wisdom: Bundling Caring Actions
Intent to Contribute Statement: Our Caritas Connection team has been working with Denise Laws, RN, MSN, who is completing her
doctoral degree in executive leading for nursing practice at USF. Denise presented a conceptual
idea to out team to work on bundling caring behaviors in order to bring Jean Watson's Caring
Science Theory alive at the bedside. Our team has been brainstorming caring behaviors related to
three constructs: intentionality, the transpersonal caring relationship and human dignity. We are
then taking the caring behaviors and bundling them as you would for HAP, or any other bundle. We
will then share the key behaviors with staff - we like to call them "pearls". We will do this through
video so that managers can share during work time and educate staff in small snippets of time the
importance of bringing caring behaviors/pearls to the bedside. We are also weaving the caring
pearls/behaviors into workflows - for example, we will weave caring pearls into the respiratory
therapy workflow of giving a breathing treatment, or a pct feeding or bathing a patient, or an RN
assessing a patient's pain. Finally, we will be weaving the caring behaviors/pearls into the ICARE
authentic hourly rounding tool, bringing the caring concepts to the authentic hourly rounding
experience. We are excited to share this project as a podium presentation and believe it will have
widespread importance.
