Los Angeles - The City of Angels

About the CityThe City of Los Angeles holds many distinctions. LA is the entertainment capital of the world, a cultural mecca boasting more than 300 museums, and a paradise of good weather. From tourist attractions like the Walk of Fame’s collection of stars (numbering 2,482, and growing by one or two a month) to career opportunities like those presented in the expanding biotech industry, Los Angeles is the place to be. It is the only city in North America to have hosted the Summer Olympics twice. Downtown LA is the largest government center outside of Washington, D.C. Los Angeles has the only remaining wooden lighthouse in the state (located in San Pedro’s Fermin Park) and the largest historical theater district on the National Register of Historic Places (located Downtown on Broadway). From star-studded Hollywood to the picturesque sandy beaches of Malibu ... Los Angeles has something for everyone.

Things to Do in LA❱❱ J. Paul Getty Center Free attraction The Getty Center is one of the most impressive architectural achievements in the United States—and it also contains some of the finest works of art in the world. The circular, concrete and steel structure was designed by architect legend Richard Meier, and it houses an abundance of art from various ages and nations.

❱❱ Santa Monica Pier and Beach Santa Monica, just west of Los Angeles, contains one of the most legendary beach scenes in the United States and, like most things L.A., the vibe is eclectic. Santa Monica also contains an abundance of great restaurants and excellent nightlife spots.

❱❱ Griffith Observatory The Griffith Observatory sits on the south face of Mount Hollywood and overlooks the Los Angeles basin. It’s location gives visitors stunning views of L.A.’s wild, sprawling civilization pushing right up to the Pacific Ocean. The observatory hosts fascinating exhibitions and a fantastic planetarium.

❱❱ Farmers Market and The Grove Sitting south of West Hollywood is one of L.A.’s most beloved landmarks: the Farmers Market. Founded in 1934, this cream-colored facility reels in both residents and tourists with a variety of fresh produce and the aroma of ready-to-eat snacks.

The AccommodationsThe Sheraton Los Angeles Downtown Hotel is in the heart of the downtown financial district and is the perfect location for the SABM 2013 Annual Meeting. The hotel is an easy walk from the Los Angeles Convention Center, the Staples Center and LA Live, as well as the adjoined to Macy’s Plaza. Nearby is Universal Studios, museums, theater, sports and must see attractions. With 20+ restaurants within walking distance of the hotel there will something that will suit everyone’s appetite. Discover the comfort and convenience of the newly renovated Sheraton Los Angeles Downtown Hotel. Rooms are available Wednesday, September 18th through Saturday, September 21, 2013. Patient Blood Management—from Bench to Bedside

The goal of this multi-disciplinary program is to educate and promote the improvement of patient outcomes using patient blood management (PBM). Participants will examine the current evidence in the use of blood and blood products, therapeutic techniques for clinical practice—including control of surgical bleeding and anemia management—and strategies to address administrative barriers and promote clinical practice improvements in the hospital setting. Networking professionals will be able to share insights about new educational tools and evidence based clinical pathways.

Learning Objectives❱❱ Identify patient blood management best practices that contribute to decreasing patient morbidity and mortality .❱❱ Defining meaningful patient blood management data that is essential to reporting patient outcomes ❱❱ Relate the economic and financial results of a comprehensive team approach to patient blood management ❱❱ Summarize the essential elements to shared patient decision making in patient blood management ❱❱ Explain the latest research recommendations for the detection, evaluation, and treatment of anemia in hospitalized

and non-hospitalized patient❱❱ Summarize the latest research that identifies techniques to optimizing coagulation in the cardiac, transplant and

other surgical patient❱❱ Establish the growing role of nursing practice in optimal patient blood management in a variety of settings❱❱ Identify strategies for educating and training healthcare professionals in patient blood management

❱❱ What is Patient Blood Management?

Patient Blood Management (PBM) is the timely application of evidence-based medical and surgical concepts designed to maintain hemoglobin concentration, optimize hemostasis and minimize blood loss in an effort to improve patient outcomes.
