• Good esteem is essential for happiness and success
• Building esteem in early years helps in future development
• Parents are main influence on child until about age 8-9
• Peer pressure starts to influence behaviour after age 9

•Set a good example and be a positive role model
• Children look up to their parents and will try to imitate what they see and hear
• Work on building your own esteem so your children will see a strong, confident adult

•Encourage your child to try harder and keep going even when they struggle and fail
• Acknowledge their efforts and feelings in a positive way
• Let them know you are proud of them

•Love your child unconditionally • Show them that you accept them even
when they do something wrong• Give hugs often as it will help them feel
secure and boost their esteem

•Fill their emotional tank with positivity • Children are born negative-minded and
need to learn how to be positive• Teach them to be kind, caring and helpful
to others

consequences• When bad choices are made, help them
