Misconceptions about workplace health & safety

Workplace health and safety costs too much money

There is a cost in some of the safety measures you need,

the cost of dealing with illness or injury will be greater

then the preventative measures.

Spending a little to prevent injuries and reduce risks will save you money in the long run.

A completelyhazard-free workplace is

impossible

Almost all accidents are avoidable under adequate health and safety

policies. By targeting a totally hazard-free workplace through risk identification and control, you will

be in a better position to reach the 'impossible' goal.

My employees can choose not to

follow Workplace Health & Safety

As an employer, each worker on your site is your responsibility. It

is your duty to enforce safety policies, e.g. personal

protective equipment (PPE).

If an employee sustains an injury after choosing not to wear their PPE, the employer

is still held liable.

Health and safety is just

common sense

While avoiding workplace injuries is possibly near the top of everybody's agenda,

a lack of knowledge can dampen the effect of even the

best of intentions.

Nothing Bad Will Happen to Me While I’m at Work

If you think you’re out of harm’s way while on the job, think again.Accidents can happen at any time

or anywhere.

Always stay up to date with your workplace health & safety

procedures.

Safety is My Employer’s Responsibility – Not Mine

Your employers have the most responsibility when it comes to

ensuring a safe workplace.

However, your employer can only do so much to protect

you from any potential safety hazards. It is up to you to work

safely and not take risks.

Selective pallet rack is the “safest” approach

Selective pallet rack is best suited for the low quantity items

and there’s a reasonable argument to be made for using it for the

midlevel inventory, but standard selective rack is not the way

to go for your high volume products.

The cheapest racking solution

is the best

Picking the right storage rack should not be solely based on the cost of the rack. You need

to consider a number of factors such as your building’s footprint, taxes, racking maintenance costs,

labour and the mobile equipment (forklifts) in your

storage facility.

Newer is better

Using the newest technology in a storage racking solution could

certainly improve your operations but there’s a good chance it

could also fail miserably, and prove to be worse than what

you have in place now.

I Must Comply With My Employer at All Times

While listening and obeying an employer’s rules & instructions

are crucial, you shouldn’t do anything that puts your health

& safety at risk.

If you reasonably believe you are in serious and imminent

danger, it’s important to stop working and leave the potentially

threatening area immediately.
