Working with 30-50 economists including Nobel Laureates, 100+ sector experts, government, donor organizations, civil society, development agencies, businesses, youth, across rural and urban areas to identify, analyze and prioritize interventions that will deliver greater benefit per gourde spent, helping move Haiti towards a more prosperous long term future.

Copenhagen Consensus Center organized roundtable discussions

with an aim to figure out smarter solutions to the most problematic

issues facing Haiti.

These roundtables are one of several sources

for research ideas.

Solid Waste;(1 of 1)

• Reduce the number of employees at city hall.• Increase the budgetary allocation to SMCRS.• Establish a waste processing center.• Conduct prospecting and identify areas for establishing

landfills in in Cap Haitien and Carrefour.• Reduce the waste trajectory to the landfills.• Create an investment fund for social entrepreneurship

to encourage the collection, treatment, processing and recycling (e.g. Viva Rio project in Carrefour Feuilles and Cité Soleil).

• Produce biogas with solid waste.

• Create discharge centers in the P-au-P metropolitan area.

Housing; (1 of 1)

• Create a housing bank to finance housing development.• Digitize land registers and train surveyors and notaries.• Simplify the process and reduce the cost of surveying a

property.• Create a leasing program (rent-to-own) for housing.• Reduce the verification time for processing and

verifying property titles, giving banks privileged access.

Road infrastructure; (1 of 1)

• Increase resources dedicated to road maintenance.• Increase the road maintenance tax on fuel; Currently 1

gourde per gallon of fuel.• Use a public-private partnership to implement a pay toll

for national roads starting with the Cayes-Jeremie road using different prices depending on the vehicle class.

• Connect all national roads to enable the interconnectivity of the whole territory.

• Build the road from Gonaives to Port-de-Paix.

• PPP partnership to manage public hospitals (Gonaives pilot).

• Build bridges for 12 rivers.• Create seaports.
