motor neurone disease
MND is fatal – there is no cure
It affects the brain and spinal cord, attacking the nerves that control
movement so muscles refuse to work. People become unable to
move, talk and eventually breathe.
It kills around 30% of people within a year of diagnosis, and more
than 50% within two years.
It affects up to 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time.
