1. INTRODUCTION
South African Entrepreneurs (SAE) is an initiative formally designed and founded by a
collective of South African entrepreneurs who own and run small businesses across all
different industries and sectors in South Africa. It is a NPO incorporated under the South
African NPO Act. The idea for the formation of this initiative was to introduce
collaboration methods amongst entrepreneurs throughout the nation.
This concept started as a whatsapp group and has in a short space of time culminated into
the formulation of a Non-Profit Organization (NPO) whose main objective is for
entrepreneurs to inspire one another and come up with solutions to every day to day
business challenges. These include guidance on various business-related challenges,
providing platforms for Business to Business transactions and setting and attaining
common goals through interaction and collaborations. The platforms are also used by
participating entrepreneurs to market and advertise their businesses, to acquire business
partners as well as joint venture collaborations.
4
2. BACKGROUND
SAE was initiated by Mr. T T Serithi through a whatsapp chat on 05/11/2014. This also
resulted in the establishment of a Facebook page where entrepreneurs can interact and
share their skills, knowledge and expertise. The original whatsapp chat group has
subsequently divided interaction and collaboration into provincial chat groups which are
spreading across the nation with multiple entrepreneurs sharing and participating. The
initiative is formalized as a Non Profit Organization. While the need grew for this
initiative in a more than an online mode, members were in agreement that a National
Board together with a National Executive Committee in the Non Profit Organization (to
deal with day to day activities and administration) be established.
Mr TT Serithi was appointed as the first SAE National Chairperson/President and
Chairman of the National Board of Directors. Along with this, additional subsidiaries to
guide and formalise the process of constitutionalising a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO)
were elected from the membership at the time. The committees now form the ultimate
governing bodies of the SAE NPO.
