Over the past year, spurred by the work of the SDG Philanthropy Platform, philanthropy has emerged as a more active stakeholder in the global conversation around the Post-2015 Development Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a result, solid groundwork has been laid for philanthropic organisations to co- create transformative solutions to achieving the SDGs. VISION Strong partnerships between philanthropic organisations, the United Nations, governments, civil society, and business to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. OUTCOMES The philanthropic sector is actively engaged in global and national planning and implementation activities around sustainable development. All countries move toward creating a more enabling environment for philanthropy to contribute to sustainable development. STRATEGY Through multi-stakeholder partnerships at the country and global levels and a free, widely available website, we will work to catalyse philanthropic engagement in developing innovative and transformative solutions to achieving the SDGs. Activities will focus on building greater capacity and a better environment for philanthropic organisations to support SDG implementation at three levels: Development policy making Global and country-level coordination among implementing partners Strategic points of entry to this work for individual foundations ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN YEAR ONE 1. Created a track for philanthropy to engage with the government- and UN- led SDG process and to participate in formative events and activities. 2. Developed country-level pilots for philanthropic collaboration with local partners in Colombia, Ghana, Kenya, and Indonesia. 3. Created a credible and accessible online data and knowledge portal on philanthropic giving related to development goals: SDGfunders.org 4. Created new knowledge products on philanthropic contributions to sustainable development, including reports, case studies, mapping of foundations in countries, and videos. 5. Reached out to 1,000+ foundations globally and in pilot countries and facilitated greater awareness of philanthropy’s role in promoting the new SDGs. SDGfunders.org, built by Foundation Center, presents knowledge and data using interactive maps and charts that can be filtered by grant makers and grant recipients at the global, regional, and national level, as well as by specific MDGs, and eventually, specific SDGs. The site envisions providing a space for online collaboration among community members and will make a wide range of resources, such as white papers, research, and evaluations, easily accessible to the public.
