Background

• After Daw Aung San Suu Kyi as Keynote speaker at Jan. 2013 Rotary Hawaii Peace Forum, Forum Organizer PDG Steve Yoshida Visited Yangon , to explore the opportunity for the Rotary to extend hands to Myanmar in six area of focus, PP Aircon of Rotary Club of Taipei Twins joined the visit, because Myanmar has over 70% live without electricity, they are in dark, Aircon proposed to donate advanced Solar power +LED lighting system donate to school children.

Myanmar Children in need of

International Help

• Myanmar has 60M population, over 85 % population are Bhudists, people are well educated & friendly, from 1962, under the rule of military government, it isolated from international community,inferstructure construction are far behind , on 2012 GDP per Capita is only 855 USD(IMF), ranking 156 in the world.

• According to Asia News Net, over 2 /3 of Maymar people are live withoiut electricity,

• In night the most rural area is in dark, student can’study in night, also causes impact on the economic development.

Donate Solar Power + LED Lighting for

Students

• This project will better use the advanced technologies, to donate Solar Power + Lithium-Iron Battery + LED lighting for Myanmar School Children.

• Fund Raising:TRF:20,000 USD Special Initiative Grant

• D-3480 DDF 5,000 USD• RC Taipei Twins : 5,000 USD Cash.• Donation from: Rotary Clubs/ Rotarians and

rotary friends• Total: 70,000 USD

Solar Power + Battery+LED Lighing

• Module & Centralize System:– Install the Solar Power Generation

+ Storage & movable batteries re-charging system at schools

– School children will get LED lighting & re-chargeable batteries at home.

– Children will have battery to light up LED lighting for 4~5 hour at home, bring it to school for re-charge next day.

– The donated system may become the properties of schools, lend to children for re-use.

Summary of the Visit1. There’s no electricity supply & very poor in the

selected area, the Solar + LED lighting system may benefits students & families.

2. Centralized system is preferred by all school principals. 

3. With the SIG grant from TRF, RC of Taipei Twins raised fund is enough to donate solar lighting system for  2,000 students. 

4. U Tun take care of deliver the donation goods to site.5. U Toe & Daw Tin May will take care of the custom

clearance, U Toe clarify the import duty rate & inform Aircon if they can apply the duty free or Myanmar side will cover the import duty, if need RC of Taipei Twins to pay import duty , inform Aircon as soon as possible. (Aircon provided the Bill of materials on Sep.8).

Summary of the Visit6. On the visit to Mrauk Oo. Select 3 monastery schools ,total

have 600 users: Winarak 110+8/Tesarama 200+8/Wimala280+8, On Rathedaung has Laung Chaung State high school (800

students among them 3/4 need light+26 teachers) & some primary school(over 3800 students)

7. On each location, should have one individual to in charge of maintenance and service of donation goods, school principles should committee to take care of the distribution &  proper use of the donation goods, keep records of the students who hold the donation goods, students  & parents should aware of the goods are donated by Rotary Foundation & Rotarians, the property are owned by schools, lend to them for use, on their graduation or any reason left school, they should return donation goods to school for the use of new students.(if they are not come to school daily, they can't recharge the batteries, it is no reason for them to keep battery & lighting), with this arrangement, the donation goods may continuous to use by school children for years.

8. According to Rotary international code of policy, all goods of donation projects shall maintain in sound condition & keep traceable record for at least 3 years, Sponsor Rotary Club or RI may have auditor to visit site & check it.

RID-3480 Rotary Club of Taipei Twins visited Myanmar on Mar.5~10, held donation ceremony of Light Up Myanmar Children's Future Project, to donate Solar Power + LED Lighting System to the students not able to access the electric lighting, hope it may brings light for students to study at night, study better knowledge to improve their social status & economic condition
