About PASCAL
55 Member Libraries
• PASCAL member libraries serve over 285,000 students, faculty & staff statewide
• Member institutions vary in size and mission
• 21 two-year institutions• 32 four year institutions• A mix of public & private institutions
• Despite differences, all member libraries face similar challenges

• Statewide resource sharing– Over 12 million volumes– Rapid delivery– Much faster and cheaper, in
most cases, than traditional ILL
• Between 2011-2014 annual circulation between 30-35KPASCAL

ILS Management
PASCAL hosts an Integrated Library System (ILS) for five public college and university libraries
• Aiken Technical College• The Citadel• Florence-Darlington Technical College• Francis Marion University• South Carolina State University
And manages a shared ILS for seven independent college libraries
• Benedict College• Coker College• Columbia International University• Erskine College• North Greenville University• Southern Wesleyan University• Voorhees College
The Value of PASCAL
• Institutional purchasing can’t match the bargaining power of a statewide program
• In FY 14-15, every dollar spent is multiplied by roughly $5.30
• $7.5 million in avoided costs
What’s New?• The Encore search interface for the PASCAL Delivers
catalog is live!• Over 250,000 unique e-book titles have been added • A catalog clean-up project was completed by the
PASCAL Catalog Design Committee• Have you tried the new Encore interface?
What’s New?• The PASCAL E-Book initiative has been a huge
success!
• Use for all four vendors between May-Dec 2014:• Over 1.5 Million Views (1,565,136)• Over 100,000 Unique Titles (102,590) • Over 14,000 Full Title Downloads (14,402)
• Look for a combined platform for EBL & Ebrary, ProQuest Ebook Central, this summer!
What’s New?Common Collection Committee • Will investigate and make recommendation on
collaborative collection development practices PASCAL Infrastructure Review Task Force • Will conduct a review of core library infrastructures and
investigate ILS/LMS systems, Discovery platforms, Print Resource Sharing options, Non-Returnable resource sharing options, Collection Management, and ERM tools
Both groups will be seeking input from PASCAL members

Training – what’s worked?Recent e-book training was a success
– The first round of e-book training sessions were completed December-April
– Over 200 participants so far!– Going forward, Proquest will offer a quarterly
webinar session– Look for more on-site e-book training
sessions in late summer
