An opportunity for community members to come together to protect and improve the area through projects, events and developing a Neighbourhood Plan

New Cross survey

• 92 people completed it so far• Volunteers will be asking people around New Cross the
survey over coming months• The survey will also be sent out to local community
organisations

27 July project planning workshop: aims and objectives for neighbourhood plan
The aim of our neighbourhood planTo make sure the future use and development of land contributes to making New Cross a better place to live, study, work and pass through, and benefits those already in the area, as well as protects its existing strengths.
Objectives for neighbourhood plan process
1. Ongoing engagement and involvement of people in New Cross to identify what they want for the future
2. Understand planning context for New Cross 3. Understand challenges facing New Cross both now and in the
future (evidence gathering, consultation and engagement) 4. Consider how to tackle each of the challenges identified (options
for NP policy) 5. Identify vision, issues and options6. Share with wider community and stakeholders to find out their
thoughts, ideas and preferences 7. Draft planning policies based on evidence, consultation and
engagement 8. Draft aspirations and non-planning policies based on evidence
and engagement 9. Produce and submit an excellent neighbourhood plan that passes
external examination and community referendum
Tasks for neighbourhood plan process
Autumn 2014: • Become designated as a Neighbourhood Forum • Research and Informal consultation
Winter 2014/15: • Research and Informal consultation
Spring 2015: • More formal consultation• Become designated as a Neighbourhood Area
Summer 2015: • Drafting of planning policies, as well aspirations and non-planning
projects (based on evidence)Autumn 2015: • Submission of neighbourhood plan
Ongoing• Continue influencing development and policy in New Cross
Actions:
• To become a designated forum, we need to submit NF application forms to council
• To do effective community engagement, we need to develop community engagement principles and plan of action
• To understand planning context for New Cross, we need to:• Review national, regional and local policy, as well as
SPDs• Get confirmation from council about which of their
policies are strategic• Speak to:
– Highways department– Housing department etc– create a contacts database of relevant people (LPA, council, GLA, TFL)
Actions (cont):
• To understand New Cross, we need to do research such as:• High street survey• Commercial workspace study• Online survey about positive and negatives of New
Cross, and what should be improved and protected, as well as what is an appropriate boundary for the New Cross neighbourhood plan
• See if community engagement group can run through the general survey with people around New Cross
• Talk to council about housing in New Cross and review their SHLA and SHMA to understand housing need
• Map social infrastructure and assess need• Map transport and assess need• Map environmental issues and assess need

• To understand New Cross, we need to do research such as:• Develop a method for producing a profile of New
Cross out of this research • Share this profile with wider community and get
their thoughts to help with next objective in process…
