RIGHTS AND CLIMATE CHANGE RESEARCH GENDER JUSTICE AND

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT NETWORK FOR WIDENING CSO

INVOLVEMENT AND PARTNERSHIP FOR EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN

GLOBALLY IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND THE AGENDAS 2030 AND 2063. THE NETWORK RECOGNIZES THAT

TRYING TO ACHIEVE THIS WITH WIDER INVOLVEMENT OF CSOS WILL

ACHIEVE MORE IMPACT THAT WORKING WITH WOMEN, GENDER

ADVOCATES AND INSTITUTIONS AND ORGANIZATION’S WORKING ON

WOMEN AND GENDER ISSUES.

WEMA 2030/2063 SEES THE ISSUE OF ACHIEVING GENDER JUSTICE AND THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS PARTICULAR THE INITIAL

AGENDA 2030 TARGET AS LINKED TO A WIDER AND DEEPER PROBLEM

THAT CAN ONLY BE ACHIEVED BY A WIDER CSO PARTICIPATION,

OWNERSHIP AND INVOLVEMENT. THIS MOVEMENT IS BEING BUILT ON VERY DEMOCRATIC STRUCTURE. THE FOCUS OF WEMA2030/2063 WILL

BE TO PROMOTE DEMOCRATIC ACCOUNTABILITY FOR GOAL 5, 10

AND 16 AND TO ENSURE THAT RURAL WOMEN ARE NOT LEFT BEHIND. IN

SUMMARY, IT AIMS TO BE:

A GLOBAL SUCCESS STORY OF MEN AND WOMEN WORKING JOINTLY

AND IN PARTNERSHIP TO ACHIEVE WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT AND THE AGENDAS 2030/2063.

Also a cross cutting goal, facilitate integration of gender

mainstreaming in all other goals.

Fully integrate the three dimensions of sustainable development and adopt integrated approach due to indivisibility.

Ministry of Women Affairs must not be the only place to review

global progress on gender, intergrate Gender Focal Points of MDAs.

-CSW AGREED CONCLUSIONS MUST EXPLICITLY ADDRESS PROGRESS,

CHALLENGES AND EMERGING ISSUES RELATED TO THE IMPLEMENTATION

OF SDGS RELEVANT TO THE THEME.

SDGS IN SECRETARY-GENERAL’S REPORTS, LINKED TO THE ANNUAL CSW

THEME.

THIS WILL ENSURE AN “OPEN UN” THAT REALLY ENGAGES WITH DIFFERENT

CONSTITUENCIES AND POPULATION GROUPS, INCLUDING WOMEN’S AND

FEMINIST CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS, NOT ONLY TO PROMOTE AND

SUPPORT THEIR ENGAGEMENT IN SDG DELIVERY AND MONITORING BUT

ALSO TO ENSURE THEY ARE FULLY ENGAGED IN THE UN SYSTEM’S OWN

WORK AT ALL LEVELS.

-CSW SHOULD FACILITATE INTERACTIVE DIALOGUES AND EXPERT PANEL SESSIONS TO EVALUATE THE PROGRESS IN IMPLEMENTING THE SDGS AS THEY RELATE TO THE OVERALL THEMES OF CSW AND BEIJING DECLARATION AND PLATFORM FOR ACTION.

-CREATE LEADERSHIP IN COUNTRIES TO FULLY INTEGRATE THE THREE DIMENSIONS OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.

-HELP TO ENSURE POLICY COHERENCE ON CROSS-CUTTING & MULTI-SECTORAL CHALLENGES.

-ENGAGE ALL STAKEHOLDERS IN ISSUE-BASED, MULTI-SECTORAL PARTNERSHIPS AND COALITIONS.

-THE CSW ROLE MUST BE COMPLEMENTARY TO THE HIGH LEVEL POLITICAL FORUM (HLPF), AND SHOULD FACILITATE EVENTS THAT ALLOWING FOR MORE IN-DEPTH DISCUSSIONS ON AN ONGOING BASIS.

THE HLPF IS THE CENTRAL FOLLOW-UP AND REVIEW PLATFORM AND MUST BEAR PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY FOR MONITORING

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ALL SDGS AT THE GLOBAL LEVEL. ADDITIONALLY, THE CSW MUST NOT BE THE ONLY PLACE TO REVIEW GLOBAL PROGRESS ON GENDER. CSW SHOULD HOLD A SPECIFIC INTERACTIVE DIALOGUE TO ADDRESS THE GENDER DIMENSIONS OF THE ANNUAL THEME OF

THE HLPF, INCLUDING PROGRESS TOWARD INDIVIDUAL INDICATORS. A CHAIR’S SUMMARY OF THE DISCUSSION SHOULD ACCOMPANY THE CSW AGREED CONCLUSIONS AS AN OFFICIAL INPUT TO THE HLPF.
