Lean & Green Synchromodal
GOAL: bundling flows and offer shippers flexibility of best mode of transport given lead time, costs, congestion, CO2*saving costs, *saving fuel, *reducing congestion, *reducing CO2, *increasing frequencies, flexibility & reliability
• Bringing together shippers and transport companies, terminal operators
• Bundling flows on specific corridors reduces costs
• Some shippers even share data as to allow for full outbound and returnflows
• 80 shippers; Current volume 600.000 TEU
• Innovation program run by Connekt under theumbrella of Topsector Logistics

GOAL: take 80% of their international traffic from the road by simple and quick regional collaboration
1. Building network
• Exploring opportunities for regional cooperation and select leading shippers.
• Working together with neutral regional parties and specialized agencies in logistics.
• Bringing joint corridor development nearby shippers and carriers in their own region.
2. Enhance relationships
• Organizing security and connectivity for joint corridor development.
• Promoting in-region cooperation and mutual trust between leading shippers and selected high-value carriers.
• Initiating open dialogues and teamwork for successful joint corridor development.
3. Enhance relationships
• Enabling easy and speedy start-up of new corridors and scale-up of existing corridors.
• Joining seamlessly new shippers and carriers. Solving showstoppers, if needed.

Domestic Corridor: Rotterdam – Brabant (Cuijk, Veghel)
• Shippers: Bavaria, Heinz and Mars
• Started 2013
• Barge service picking up containers in Cuijk (Heinz) and Veghel (Bavaria, Mars) to Rotterdam
• Initial reduction of 10,000 truck journeys on the busy A15 motorway
• 3,400 containers with Mars bars and bottles of Bavaria beer

International Corridor: Brabant – Slovakia / Hungary
• Shippers: Samsung, Sabic
• Transport / 3PL: GVT
• Started 2015
• Sabic (chemicals): outbound flows Netherlands – Slovakia / Hungary
• Samsung (electronics): inbound flows from factory Slovakia / Hungary – Netherlands (EDC)
• Collaboration & trust took 18 months before operational
• GVT: operates container train; holds containers at Tilburg terminal till needed
• Samsung: costs savings: 8% Slovakia; 1% Hungary; 45% C02-reduction; operational improvements
• Sabic: CO2-reduction, costs savings and improved delivery reliability
• Requirement: internal transparancy, adjusting of internal planning; optimal communication (trust)

International Corridor: Holland – Turkey; Holland - Italy
• Shippers: Nutricia, Bavaria
• Transport / 3PL: Samskip
• Started 2012/2014
• Turkey Green Bridge: Connecting Rail (from Holland) to RoRo Ferry (Duisburg – Istanbul)
– Nutricia: multimodal fully integrated in planning process. Truck used as back up; only 3% by truck;
– Samskip: CO2-savings 6.5 tonnes / 50% compared to road
• Italy: Connecting Barge (Veghel to Rotterdam) to Rail (Rotterdam - Milan)
– Bavaria: 2,000 containers annually to Italy; almost 100% multimodal
– Bavaria: operational improvement / flexibility; reducing CO2 footprint
– Samskip: Cost-neutral solution
