Kudoz is part of a larger movement towards ongoing learning and alternative credentialing for people with cognitive disability in British Columbia. Based on social cognitive career choice theory, Kudoz broadens & deepens interests, expands networks, and creates a new way for employers to recognize talent.

In Kudoz, folks with cognitive disabilities choose a badge that they would like to earn from the catalogue. As part of the process of earning the badge, they would go on learning experiences which are hosted by people in the communities, including business owners, freelancers, caring citizens, students, and staff members in the agencies.

Individuals do not just go on learning experiences, they also get together in small groups for a conversation at Kudoz Reflection Café all over the city. They share pictures, ask each other questions, or spend some time journaling or drawing or doing whatever helps them make sense of the things we’re doing. Because without reflecting, there’s no learning!

Just like what Aaron – one of the first 15 individuals to try out Kudoz whom we lovingly called Kudoers – said: Kudoz enabled him to explore different interests that were not available for him before. By continuing to meet new hosts, we hope Aaron will expand his network. And through that network, we think roles and opportunities will come. He has been offered to take up a 8-week course with Kim, a professional comedian, after he went on a comedy experience with her!

Congratulations to all of Kudoers, Hosts, family members and Reflection Assistants for the new skills you have picked up, the new things you have learned about yourself, and the new network you have created!

We want to grow the Kudoz movement. So that many more small business owners, freelancers, students, and retirees see Kudoz as a rich and fulling way to share and deepen their own interests and passions. A tipping point. Where adults with and without cognitive disabilities are interacting meaningfully - and developing together. For us, that’s what community inclusion really means.

We have a big vision in Kudoz and we know we have a long way to go. We will consolide what we have learned during the trial period of Kudoz and fundraise for the future.
