Project Area

The Project Area is situated within Liberty Village in the City of Toronto, bounded by King St West to the north west, GO Transit Corridor and Western Battery Rd to the south and Shaw St to the East.

Project Background • The Environmental Assessment (EA) was completed in November 2011. • Multiple alternative locations of the King‐Liberty Pedestrian / Cyclist Link were 

considered and assessed as part of the EA. • Once the preferred location was determined, various design alternatives were 

considered.

• A bridge with a combination of stairs and elevators for access was identified as the recommended preferred design.

• This is the early concept design from 2011. See later slides for current detailed design.

Project Background

The preferred design offer the following:

Poses minimal impact to possible future multi‐use path on Douro St.

Elevator eliminates the need for out‐of‐way travel and it is accessible for cyclists at all levels. 

Requires the least amount of tree removal.  Poses minimal impacts to residential and commercial 

properties.  Poses no impacts to archaeological or heritage 

resources.  Poses no Impacts to Metrolinx / CN / CP rail 

operations.

Tree Inventory: Western Battery Rd The tree inventory study area includes the Project Area plus a 6m buffer. There are 24 trees near the southern part of the bridge that may need removal, subject to final design.Trees range from 4.5cm – 18cm Diameter at Breast Height.

The tree inventory study area includes the Project Area plus a 6m buffer.  There are 7 treesnear the northern part of the bridge that may need removal, subject to final design. Trees range from 2cm ‐7cm Diameter at Breast Height.
