Follow Up Schools Good Afternoon, My name is Jasmyn Snipes and I am the special events intern with JDRF Central Virginia. JDRF is a nonprofit organization that aims to prevent and find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). I have been informed that you were previously contacted by a JDRF volunteer in regards to holding a Kids Walk program at your school this spring. The Kids Walk is an educational in-school fundraising program that aims to teach children about type 1 and type 2 diabetes as well as discuss the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Typically, a JDRF staff member or volunteer works with school personnel to choose two dates to hold the program. The first date consists of an educational kick-off where students learn about type 1 and type 2 diabetes, the importance of healthy diet and exercise, and effective and safe fundraising strategies. On the second date, students submit the funds they have raised at a celebratory walk that is held on the school’s campus. This is a great opportunity for kids to come together and get active, and participating students who raise $10 or more are eligible to earn fun gifts! The JDRF Kids Walk program is also very beneficial to participating schools. Ten percent of the total amount raised for JDRF by your school is awarded back to the school for use on equipment, books, field trips, or anything else your school may need. If your school is interested in learning more information or would like to schedule a Kids Walk at your school this spring, please contact us at (804) 254-8014 or email [email protected] .
