Vulnerability of pastoral livelihoods■ Located on Arid and Semi-Arid lands, with a strong association with

wildlife conservation

■ Represent 70% of the total land area of Kenya, supports 30% of thepopulation

■ Increased frequency of drought and famine, associated to Climatechange

■ Collapsing herd size overtime, weakening re-stocking efforts, therebyentrenching poverty

■ Disregard, devalued indigenous knowledge systems and practices, which have sustainably managed the rangelands for years

■ Low level of literacy, constraining diversification options

■ Limited access to livestock markets, constraining potential incomeearnings

Key Lessons■ The Proposal preparation process is very technical and tedious - access modalities,

■ The scale of funding is relatively “large” in the context of local level/communityinterventions … hence calls of creativity and collaboration across communities andperhaps levels of engagement

■ Understanding certain key concepts is critical – beneficiary’s needs, sustainability, impacts, gender dynamics, national policy and programmatic focus in CC

■ Early Strategic engagement with accredited national implementing entities, especially during GCF Readiness

■ History of relevant performance – track record …. Clear and demonstrateddocumentation
