The objective is to provide to the stakeholders involved in ERTMS projects with technical knowledge that may help in the deploying of ERTMS within their projects

• Tailored to the scope and stage of the projects• Technical visits and meetings with the projects• Technical guidance in call for tenders• Answer to technical specific functional questions• Assistance in identifying and implementing feasible mitigation measures• Help understanding testing results and certification• Dissemination of European guidelines

Technical guidance

The final objective is to help project managers assessing the benefits of their projects and choosing the most appropriate financing scheme. During the project preparation phase

• Guidelines which will include a detailed list of costs for ERTMS projects but also a detailed list of potential benefits, with default values that could be used by project sponsors to make their own assessment;

• Guideline on recommendations on financial schemes.• Economic assistance on demand: The DMT will also be available to help

stakeholders find appropriate information on ERTMS, and to review the financing schemes prepared by them.

Why a Technical assistance? lessons learned

• Meetings during the last 6 years for the TEN T funded projects

• A minimum knowledge of what is expected from the ERTMS projects is in any case necessary• There is still no common understanding for the APS; cross acceptance / homologation / European

recommendations• At a corridor level, not always a common approach (e.g. technical, deadlines, operational, versions) to the

deployment of ETCS • Trackside projects: there shall not be network access criteria exceeding the TSI • Onboard projects: project representatives shall be aware of the limitations the restrictions of their

onboard equipment can impose • Different approaches from the suppliers, NoBos, AsBos and NSA for the development and placing in

service process

• Some examples

• Network access requirements vs engineering rules• Different ERTMS versions in a cross border section• BCA report mitigations
