An interior architecture executive focused on the corporate market, Luisa de Roo also takes an active role in her community. Luisa de Roo stands out as an active supporter of the Assisi Animal Foundation in Crystal Lake, Illinois.

First established in the 1980s, the Assisi Animal Foundation grew out of a shared love of animals between Mrs. I.L. Yarosh and her daughter Mrs. I. Linklater. The shelter began in the homes of the two women, who used their own personal funds to build a physical shelter for the 150 animals then under their care.

The area's first cage-free, no-kill shelter, the facility continues to provide much-needed care for animals waiting for permanent homes.

Actively involved with nursing and assisted living facilities across the area, the Assisi Animal Foundation provides pet-assisted therapies for residents of these facilities as well as for the homebound. Through these visits, the foundation has become aware of the heartache that ensues when an elderly person cannot arrange care for a beloved pet upon moving to a facility. In response, the foundation has initiated a continuing care program that arranges to take in such pets.

The foundation also continues to advocate for homeless animals with humane education initiatives for community members of all ages.
