WIND POWER SERENGETI ACTIVITIES
SMART VILLAGES
Co-operative society in a theory session
To understand better a small scale wind turbine constructions; theory classes and practical have to be conducted for villagers
Gender equality is also considered
Electricity in villages benefits most women; Women therefore have to be involved from the beginning of this process. Wind power co-operative society of this village involved all genders
Workshop practicals
Construction of this local made wind turbine involves a lot of welding; It is therefore necessary for villagers to be trained on welding skills.
Blades manufacturing Blades of this turbine is made of soft wood. Village members have to be trained in carpentry skills as well to enable them working in this part. Members of co-operative society are seen keen of learning how to manufacture turbine blades.
Turbine generator
This turbine generator is of PMG type. Rotor is made of 2 rotating disks packed with magnets well secured with hypoxic.
Generator cont.
Generator stator is made of coiled copper wires. The co-operative have to work from the scratch to make the coils.
Generator coils
The coils well arranged ready to be connected to form a generator stator
Finished stator
This is a finished generator stator ready to produce 24V/AC
Generator assembling
Air gap adjustment is very important
Blades fixing
Well painted blades are then attached to the generator
Tower erecting
First a tower has to be erected without turbine for last adjustment
Turbine erection
The turbine is then erected with full concentration of every participant
Erected turbine
Girls students gathering at the turbine together with cooperative members
