UNIT 7: COMMERCE AND CULTURE OVERVIEW Over the course of this unit, we will teach and learn about some important pre-modern (500-1500CE) trade routes. Think of these trade routes as early forms of globalization in the sense that goods and culture started to spread around the world. For example, silk production was originally mastered in China, and was eventually copied by farmers in India and SE Asia.

Some of the trade routes we will discover are:
