5. Elektra Belle Epoque - £13,250

Looking like a long lost cousin of a ‘Doctor Who’ Dalek or perhaps an early model R2D2, the Belle Epoque is a throwback to the coffee machines of yesteryear. With the undoubted elegance of its copper and brass design and the admirable craftsmanship of the individual levers and controls, it’s easy to see why it’s so valuable. Bravo Elektra, Bravo!

1. Roasting Plant Javabot - £668,000

Recognising we're taking slight liberties with the phrase "coffee machine" here, you'll find this mammoth machine amongst the hustle and bustle of New York City. The series of transparent columns contain green coffee beans. They're measured, roasted and stored for 48 hours before the coffee is ready for packing or roasting. Half a million quid worth of roasting equipment finished off with a Willy Wonka style design.
