RESEARCH INTO MUSIC VIDEO DIRECTORS

ANTHONY MANDLER Anthony Mandler is an American film, music, television director and photographer. As a music director his most notable and frequent collaborator is Rihanna. The two have worked on sixteen music videos together throughout her career, beginning with Unfaithful in 2006 and most recently Diamonds in 2012. He has also written and directed music videos for many other prominent artists including big stars like; Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Eminem, Usher, Shakira, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber. His work includes videos such as Taylor Swifts ‘I knew you where trouble’ which was a very successful music video, along with his work on ‘diamonds’ by Rihanna. His camera work is very presise and he manages to always use a range of techniques, I can learn from these techniques and maybe apply them to my music video.

ETHAN LADDER He is internationally recognized for this unique visual style and imaginiation He has directed back-to-back Billboard #1 singles: B.o.B “Nothin On You” Bruno Mars “Just The Way You Are” These videos have been nominated for various awards, including MTV Video Music Awards Best Pop Video, BET Awards Video of the Year, and BET Hip-Hop Awards Video of the Year. “Just The Way You Are” has been nominated for Much Music’s International Video of the Year and Most Watched video of the year with currently over 270 million views on YouTube alone. His videos are constantly on rotation on MTV, BET and VH1.He has lensed videos for everyone from Mariah Carey, Bruno Mars, Enrique Iglesias, Usher, B.o.B, OneRepublic, Leona Lewis and even more. His work has been acknowledged by Entertainment Tonight, Billboard Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, MTV, LA Weekly and many more

Seeing some of Ethan’s work, I've learnt that variety of different shots is very important for a music video, this is what Im going to do for my video, the more verity of shots every second the better the video.

JAKE NAVA Jake Nava is a director of music videos and TV commercials, having created award-winning works over the past decade for some of the best-known artists and brands worldwide. He has directed videos from the very well known ‘ crazy in love’ Beyonce and ‘some one like you’ Adel, his work is very good in terms of location and camera work. Looking at his music videos there is a lot that I can learn from his techniques with the camera and the use f different locations.
