BASIC REFORMS TO PROMOTE AGRICULTURE

Page 10: Mr. jawed-salim-qureshi-dawn-pakistan-food-agri-expo-conference-2016

ROLE OF R&D IN SEEDS• Low acceptability of Certified Seed by the farmer• Lack of DNA bar coding & finger printing lab to certify

Nursery• Lack of Truth/ Labelling• True public/private partnership in R&D with research

institutes• Addition of oil seed crops (Import of edible oil in 2013-14 is PKR 211 Billion)

(If we are able to bring average yield / acre equal to Sindh then we can spare 1,467,004 hectares for canola crop & annually save PKR 81 billion spent on import of edible oil)

Page 11: Mr. jawed-salim-qureshi-dawn-pakistan-food-agri-expo-conference-2016

• Awareness of Balanced Fertilizer Applications• Micronutrients deficiency

ROLE OF R&D IN FERTILIZERS

Page 12: Mr. jawed-salim-qureshi-dawn-pakistan-food-agri-expo-conference-2016

• Bar coding of products for quality & traceability• Mandatory accreditation labs with each

formulator/manufacturer• Establishment of pesticide residual labs in different

geographical zones• Use of low toxic and less residual pesticides for fruits and

vegetables to boost Agri exports• Establishment of GLP labs for continuous pest resistance

studies • Health, Safety and Crop Productivity improvement

program on village level by public & private sector

ROLE OF R&D IN PESTICIDES

Page 13: Mr. jawed-salim-qureshi-dawn-pakistan-food-agri-expo-conference-2016

CREDIT ISSUES• Sanctioning of farmers loan as per the local value of

the land accessed by the bank• Introduction of farmers loan on zero percent mark up

who pays back at crop harvesting time • Monitoring by SBP for timely loan disbursement by

financial institutions to the farmers.
