This document illustrates both our business and corporate social

responsibility agenda. With our chocolate factory in Ecuador we

promote best practices and educate professionals. We strive to

become a partner to gastronomy professionals and chocolate

makers worldwide!

Our founding partner Chocolian Young-Joo Go combines more

than 25 years of experience with values that focus on

sustainability and innovation. She is highly respected amongst

professionals in Korea. Local professionals call her the

„Teacher“.

It is crucial to build and maintain close relationships with our

partner cacao growers and provide them with the tools and

knowledge to cultivate the best cacao in the world. We develop

projects for their local communities to create financial and social

safety.

Through educational programs and scholarships for family

members of cacao farmers Ecuacao will create wealth for the

company, its employees and communities in Ecuador. We

strongly believe that Ecuacao can only thrive if the people we are

working with receive all the benefits of being an active part of

our business plan. We encourage them to freely express their

opinion and continuously improve communication between all

parties. This corporate culture will create a strong community

that will create added value for generations to come.

Ecuacao regularly brings clients and employees together to visit

our partner plantations and factory in Ecuador. It provides them

with insight about the whole value chain and makes everybody

an active part. From those who cultivate and grow cacao trees on

the farms to those who develop premium gourmet creations with

those cacao beans.

The vision of Ecuacao is to promote cacao beans from Ecuador,

its unique properties and support the cacao industry in Asia.

Long-term partnerships will contribute to the fundamental work

in Ecuador, in the regions of Los Rios. Local communities and

associations are a vital part to realize our vision.

We hope that you will enjoy reading about our CSR

agenda. Please feel free to send us your comments or

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE Lotte Confectionery Co Ltd maintained its

leading position in 2014 with a 35% value

share of sales.

This can be attributed to the fact that Lotte

owns several brands which are well-

established in the category, including Ghana

and Dream Cacao.

PROSPECTS Although the South Korean chocolate

confectionery category is relatively small

when compared with other advanced markets,

consumption is expected to continue to

increase. The category is expected to register a

value CAGR of 2% at constant 2014 prices

over the forecast period. Growth will mainly

derive from increased awareness of the health

benefits of chocolate as well as a wider range

of high-quality chocolate from domestic and

international brands.

CONFECTIONARY TREND Chocolate is growing in popularity among

the adult population in South Korea due

to its perceived positive health benefits.

Recent media coverage of global research

has focused on the benefits of chocolate in

helping to prevent heart disease, high

blood pressure and depression. The key

component, polyphenol, is more prevalent

in dark chocolate, hence the spotlight on

dark chocolate in the media.

Products with a high cocoa content are

more popular due to their health benefits

and stronger flavor.

DECISION-MAKING AND

IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS Ecuacao focuses on building sustainable long-

term partnerships with cocoa producers

in Ecuador.

In order to improve the living and work

conditions for cacao producers and the

families in Ecuador, Ecuacao partners with

local communities to create beneficial and

profitable co-developments that will positively

social structures. Other important areas are

health and education.

Together with our local partners we initiate

several programs that connects cacao growing

communities.

Through those programs Ecuacao maintains

close relationships with the families that are

involved in the whole value chain of the

Ecuadorian cacao industry.

Most importantly understanding and

embracing the people, their culture and

circumstances allows Ecuacao to assist them

with daily life activities especially the

challenges they face including community

related issues to concerns regarding local

authorities or government actions.

Everything that helps cacao-producing

communities complies with this decision-

making process and its implementation.

Ecuacao actively develops strong and trusted

partnerships. All cacao-bean producers agree

to become of a partner of Ecuacao’s social

responsibility approach by signing the

Responsible Development Charter (topics of

this Charter are described in - value creation)

Ecuacao already established the pillars

of its social responsibility approach by

creating long-term partnerships with

companies and professionals both in

Korea and Ecuador. Strategic alliances

with cacao growers ensure a reliable

supply of exceptional products to

customers.

Ecuacao strives to unite

stakeholders, suppliers, customers

and associations in order to

realize these commitments and

values.Value creation encourages

sustainable developments focused

on resonsible work practices.

Without transparency great things can

not be accomplished. Thus Ecuacao

openly communicates with suppliers,

partners and customers. The exchange of

information between all parties

contributes to a great outcome. High

quality products and commited services

supports the value creation.

A vital component of the CSR program

and measures adopted to strengthen local

communities that grow the best cacao-

beans,Ecuacao, in 2015, finances the

construction of technical and educational

facilities in Equador. Ecuacao also invites

partners and clients to be a part of this

wonderful project with the launch of

Ecuacao couverture developed by Young-

Joo Go specifically for the Asian market.

Value

Creation

Page 14: Ecuacao roadmap

Ecuacao invited you to

become a partner what was it

that made you want to

participate?

“I’ve started Cacaoboom in 2013

and have never visited a cocoa

plantation in Ecuador before. I

always thought to start a small

bean to bar factory in Korea.

However, it was not possible for

several reasons. Together with

Ecuacao I can see firsthand where

cacao beans come from and

actively participate in the

development and creation of fine

chocolate to create value for local

communites, consumers and my

students as well.

I‘ve already visited Switzerland to

visit chocolate production

workshops and was fascinated of

the whole process. This experience

was truly incredible . Now i can

be an active part of the whole

value creation.

Were you already familiar with

Ecuadorian beans? What‘s your

opinion?

“Yes, I had already tried

cacao beans from Ecuador and also

couverture made of Nacional Arriba..I

t’s a very good cacao bean and

I already have some ideas about

what I can create with them. For

example roasted cacao beans

coated with chocolate are a

unique product for the Korean

market .

The quality of cacao from

Ecuador is outstanding. There

are so many wonderful ways to

use it.

Eventually it is all about the

people - I know how it will

benefit them and serve whole

communities. That is vital. It is

my commitment to be part of

Ecuacao, which is committed to

social issues.”

Will you share this experience

with your own customers?

“I will post photos from

the trip to Ecuador on my

social media accounts so that I

can show people how things are

going and that everything is

really happening. My customers

trust me, and they will

understand who Ecuacao is and

appreciate it for what they do.

I will use the factory and

academy to educate my students

and promote our project to my

partners and customers as well.

Interview with Young-Joo Go

Cacaoboom- Seoul, South Korea

Ultimately it’s also about how

Ecuacao respects the work of

producers and local

communities.

It’s important to me to be

involved in a project that is

about fair- trade and socially-

responsible chocolate.I can

educate my customers where the

chocolate comes from and

what the conditions are on the

farms and in the factory and how

it impacts all the people

involved.

I can experience all processes of

preparation, all the manual work

that’s done (as in my profession),

and interact with the producers

JOINT COMMITMENT OF BUYERS AND SUPPLIERS

Ecuacao created a responsible purchasing policy of

sustainable supply development .

The Buyers Code of Conduct is a document

that guides buyers to exercise their duties.

Buyers must comply with Ecuacao‘s social and

environmental commitments.

- Purchase with integrity and ethics, ensuring

fair competition and fair treatment of tenders

- Communicate and collaborate effectively

and fairly, making sure to provide suppliers

with the same quality of information by

respecting the contractual frameworks and

commitments vis- à-vis suppliers

- Act sustainably and in solidarity by

securing supply sources and applying the

social and environmental responsibility

criteria when selecting suppliers

- Promote progress and performance plans

by developing long-term, mutually

beneficial partner relationships, and

deploying tools and regular opportunities to

share in order to improve Ecuacao’s

performance

Ecuacao preferably works with Buyers who have

signed the Buyers Code of Conduct. The

Objective is to have at least 80% of Ecuacao’s

purchase covered by the Buyers Code of

Conduct . We aim to achieve 100% in the

future.

After successful training of buyers and full

commitment to the Code of Conduct, Ecuacao

involves suppliers in the process and let them sign

the Sustainable Purchasing Charter.

The Sustainable Purchasing Charter is a crucial

part of Ecuacao‘s CSR agenda. By signing the

Charter, suppliers agree to follow and apply

the social responsibility approach.

Four major subjects are addressed in the Charter:

1. LABOR RIGHTS

Respect and implement fundamental principles

and rights at work, as defined in the

Declaration of International Labor

Organization, controll the practices of their

suppliers, and eliminating all forms of forced

labor and child labor.

2. GOVERNANCE AND ETHICS

Fight against corruption by exercising

necessary company policies and educating

employees. Discuss investment ideas and

recruitment policies locally.

Promote fair competition and social

responsibility.

3. RESPECT AND

PROTECTION OF THE

ENVIRONMENT

Reduce and control the impacts of

activities/ operations on the environment by

monitoring performance indicators (CO2

emissions, energy consumption, emissions of

pollutants into the air, water, and waste).

4. RISK MANAGEMET

AND FOOD SAFETY

Identify environmental issues and risks of suppliers

activities/ practices on ecosystems and public health

by implementation of precautionary measures

,policy of health-risk protection and safety overall.

This Charter i s a guideline between

suppliers and Ecuacao, whose goal is continuous

improvement in CSR practices.

We aim to achieve that at least 60% of Ecuacao‘s

purchases are from suppliers committed to

the Sustainable Purchasing Charter. The aim

involve more suppliers and reach ~100% in long-

term.

of transparency, loyalty, committment

and trust. In order to effectively stimulate

crucial that all players know each other

quite well.

Trust is key. Comprehensive Knowledge

Ecuacao connects suppliers and

customers to its objective to build a

sustainable development which is

transparent and promotes active

communication, listening and sharing

with stakeholders.

Thus Ecuacao and Enersa designs a

supplier-satisfaction survey between

the company and suppliers. This tool

provides us with valuable insight

regarding the quality of our

cooperation as well performance and

areas for improvement and focus.

Our suppliers feedback and opinions

will be treated with confidentiality.

The survey is an important tool to

evaluate the CSR commitment of our

suppliers. We want to ensure that our

relationships with commercial

suppliers follow the guidelines of the

Buyers Code of Conduct.

Page 18: Ecuacao roadmap

An important aspect of our growth strategy

is Social Leadership and the evaluation of

our partners with ENERSA.

By assessing the environmental and social

performance of our stakeholders we will be

able to continously improve the quality

and effectiveness of our business

performance as well.

Enersa assesses if our partners abide by our

CSR policies. It uses extensive methods and

analytic tools to evaluate the impact on

enironmental, social, business and ethical

aspects.

By focusing on social leadership Ecuacao

can strengthen other vital areas such as

Innovation, Expansion and Sustainable

Cocoa.

Constant innovation of best practices,

business processes, product

development, agricultural technology,

productivity, and our CSR program,

will enable us to expand to the Asian

market and eventually establishes

Ecuacao as a global player.

By creating wealth on a large scale

Ecuacao will use its resources to build

long lasting infrastructures in Ecuador.

This will further enforce our vision to

achieve Social Leadership.

Only if we stay loyal to our core

principles, Ecuacao will be able to

contribute to the creation of Sustainable

Cocoa in Ecuador. Without Sustainable

Cocoa, we can not thrive as company in

a very competitive landscape. Thus our
