SpeciesThere are more than 1,400 types of fish in the Great Barrier Reef.The Great Barrier Reef is one of the largest reefs in the world. It contains more than 3,000 types of coral reefs and 600 islands. The following animals of the Great Barrier Reef are 1,500 types of marine fish, 360 types of coral [hard], 5000 – 8000 species of mollusc's[clams, sea snails, octopus and squid], 600 species of echinoderms, 17 species of sea snakes, 1,500 species of sponges, 30 species of whales and dolphins, 6 species of sea turtles, 22 species of sea birds and 32 species of shorebirds.

There are lot’s more than a thousand fish swimming in these waters.• They come from sizes like tiny fish and live

up to adult fish. Some larger bonier fish are tusk fish and potato cod but there are a lot of massive fish including manta rays, tiger sharks and whale sharks. Other fish in the Great Barrier Reef include blennies, butterfly fish, trigger fish, cow fish, puffer fish, angel fish, anemone fish, coral trout, seahorses, sea perch, sole ,scorpion fish, hawk fish and surgeon fish.

TypesThese are all the animals from

the picture before• Turtle types: Green turtle, Loggerhead

turtle, Hawksbill turtle, Olive Ridley turtle, Leather back turtle, Flat back turtle.

• Echinoderm types: Asteroidean – sea star and starfish. Ophiuroidea – Brittle stars, basket stars and serpent stars. Echinoidea – Sea Urchin, Heart Urchin and Sandollars.

• Crinoidea – Feather stars and Sea Lilies.• Holothuroidea – Holothurians and Sea

What is a Coral Reef ?A coral Reef is a sea structure made out of living organisms which together form a coral wall.

The closest thing that the coral reef would look like is people planting or picking a flower because of it’s different colours and shapes.

What are Coral Reefs made from?• A coral Reef is made from the most

lovely marine animals: sea stars and the beautiful under water plants.
