Should Factual Writing Contain Bias? There are a lot of different beliefs and questions to whether factual writing should contain bias or not, I think it is difficult to get away from bias in print media because there are always different sides to a story, especially in newspapers and magazines. For me it depends on the print media, for example leaflets are usually one-sided trying to get one view across to promote something e.g. Stop Smoking leaflet, this leaflet is to try and persuade someone to stop smoking and will include facts on why it is better for you and the negatives on smoking, this leaflet will not include the other side to state pros on smoking because it will go against its view and will not persuade people to stop. This is when bias is acceptable from my opinion, although everyone is entitled to their own. As long as your opinion is backed up with real facts to make it more believable then a document can be one – sided. In other media formats such as newspapers or television news bias should not always be acceptable, because this could make people have 1 opinion on something because they will not hear the other side to the story which is unfair from my view. For example an article in the news could be shown and the newsreaders talking about 1 opinion to that story and not sharing another, this could lead the viewers to think bad of something because they have not heard the good, which is unfair and an unbalanced argument.

Should Factual Writing Contain Bias?

There are a lot of different beliefs and questions to whether factual writing should contain bias or

not, I think it is difficult to get away from bias in print media because there are always different sides

to a story, especially in newspapers and magazines. For me it depends on the print media, for

example leaflets are usually one-sided trying to get one view across to promote something e.g. Stop

Smoking leaflet, this leaflet is to try and persuade someone to stop smoking and will include facts on

why it is better for you and the negatives on smoking, this leaflet will not include the other side to

state pros on smoking because it will go against its view and will not persuade people to stop. This is

when bias is acceptable from my opinion, although everyone is entitled to their own. As long as

your opinion is backed up with real facts to make it more believable then a document can be one –

sided.

In other media formats such as newspapers or television news bias should not always be acceptable,

because this could make people have 1 opinion on something because they will not hear the other

side to the story which is unfair from my view. For example an article in the news could be shown

and the newsreaders talking about 1 opinion to that story and not sharing another, this could lead

the viewers to think bad of something because they have not heard the good, which is unfair and an

unbalanced argument.
