Our Mission

Presentation for GCF 2

We are responsible for:

• The generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electrical energy

• The treatment of raw water and supply of potable water

• The treatment and safe disposal of waste water into the environment

At a glance

• Parastatal company created in 1986.

• Headquarters in Roche Caiman, Mahe, Seychelles.

• 1,040 employees

Presentation for GCF 3

At a glance

• 35,000 electricity, 29,000 water and 4,500 sewage customers

• 378 GWh produced (2015)• 6.8 GWh from wind

• 1.3 GWh from distributed rooftop solar

• 8.5 million m3 of water distributed (2015)

• Turnover SCR 1.4 billion

Presentation for GCF 4

Key Assets• La Gogue Dam

• Storage capacity – 970,000 m3

• Rochon Dam• Storage capacity – 50,000 m3

• Desalination plants• Total production capacity

24,000 m3/day

Presentation for GCF 5

Key Assets

• Victoria Power Station B• 11.5 MW capacity

• Victoria Power Station C• 74 MW capacity

• Praslin Power Station• 16.3 MW capacity

• 6 MW Port Victoria Windfarm

• 1,500km low voltage distribution lines

• 185 km 11kV overhead, 70 km 11kV underground

Presentation for GCF 6

Renewable Energy Integration

• Grid Studies Conducted (Energynauticsand Okinawa Enetech)• Grid impact assessment – how the

introduction of RE sources will affect the grid performance

• Dynamic Stability• RE sources are intermittent power sources

• It is important to ensure that alternative dispatchable power sources are available to meet the Load Demand at all times

Presentation for GCF 7

Dump load test – Okinawa Enetech

• 4MW load on a generator.

• Disconnect the generator.

• How does the system react?

Presentation for GCF 8

Renewable Energy Integration - Generation

• Immediate - ensure sufficient Spinning Reserve is available by increasing generator capacity if necessary

• Short-term – possible introduction of adequate Battery Storage within 3 years

Presentation for GCF 9

Transmission and Distribution

• Voltage Profile should be maintained within acceptable limits

Presentation for GCF 10

• 33 kV South Mahe network extension

• Will also have 2 routes to the AnseBoileau Substation.

Presentation for GCF 11

Transmission and Distribution

Transmission and Distribution

• North Mahé 33kV reinforcement

Presentation for GCF 12

Major Future Projects

• Raise La Gogue Dam to increase storage capacity by 60%.

• Replacement of 20km of water pipes (transmission and distribution).

• New La Digue sewage treatment plant.

• Construct 5 MW solar park on Ile de Romainville.

Presentation for GCF 13

Ile de Romainville Solar Park

• 5 MWp

• 7 GWh per year, or 2% of total energy demand.

• 5,000 tonnes of CO2 avoided, 1.6 million litres of HFO saved every year.

• US$ 11.2 million.

• Loan from IRENA-ADFD.

• Construction to start in 2017.
