Species : Asparagus racemosusFamily : asparagaceaeUses : Asparagus racemosus (Shatavari) is recommendedin Ayurvedic texts for the prevention and treatment of gastric ulcers and dyspepsia,and as a galactogogue. A. racemosus has also been used by some Ayurvedic practitionersfor nervous disorders.Chemical constituent:Two new steroidal saponins, shatavaroside A and shatavaroside B together with a known saponin,filiasparoside C,were isolated from the roots of Asparagusracemosus.Five steroidal saponins,shatavarins VI-X,together with five known saponins,shatavarin I (or asparoside B),shatavarinIV (or asparinin B),shatavarin V,immunoside and schidigerasaponin D5 (or asparanin A), have been isolated from theroots of Asparagus racemosus.Also known is the isoflavone8-methoxy-5,6,4'-trihydroxyisoflavone 7-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside.

species:Ocimum tenuiflorum, also known as Ocimum sanctum,holy basil,or tulasi (also spelled thulasi),is an aromatic plant in the family Lamiaceae which is native to the Indiansubcontinent and widespread as a cultivated plant throughout the Southeast Asian tropics.Family : lamiaceaeuses:It acts as a detoxifying,cleansing and purifying agentboth from within and without..It is also effective in treating skin disorders, itching and issues like ringworms..It helps in relieving from fever, headache, sore throat, cold, cough, flu and chest congestion..Helps relieve stress, strengthen immunity, and facilitate proper digestion..It is loaded with phytonutrients, essential oils, Vitamin.Chemical constituent:The chemical composition of the essentialoil of flowering aerial parts of Ocimum tenuiflorum L. growing in the North West Karnataka, India, was investigated. The hydro-distilled essential oil was analyzed by gas chromatography equipped with flame ionization detector (GC-FID) and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Results demonstrated that the oil was found to berich in phenyl derivative compounds (83.8%). The majorcompound was identified as methyl eugenol (82.9%) among twenty-six compounds, comprising 98.9% of the total oil.

KARDALSynonym: Canna indica Biological source:Plant species of the Canna genus,belonging to the family Cannaceae, Chemical constituents: Rootstock contains various enzymes, triacontanol Betulinic acid,. Oleonolic acid and Traraxer-14-en-3-one.Uses: The plant is used in the treatment of women's complaints. A decoction of the root with fermented rice is used in the treatment of gonorrhoeaand amenorrhoea. The plant is also considered to be demulcent, diaphoretic and diuretic. A fibre obtained from the leaves is used for making paper. Smoke from the burning leaves is said to be insecticidal.

SUNFLOWERSynonym: -Helianthus annuusBiological source:- Belongs to the family of Astera-ceae or CompositaeChemical constituents: Palmetic acid(5%),stearic acid(6%),oleic acid(30%),linoleic acid(59%),proteins(14-19%),soluble sugar(7-9%)The Stem part also contains phosphorous & potassium.Uses: The greatest medicinal use of sunflower that has been used throughoutthe world is for pulmonary afflictions.Used in industry for paints & cosmetics.The dried stem is also been used as fuel.The fibre from the stem is used for paper.

Biological Source Palm (plant), a plant in the family Arecaceae.Uses of palm .Rattans, whose stems are used extensivelyin furniture and baskets, are in the genus Calamus.Palm oil is an edible vegetable oil produced by the oil palmsin the genus Elaeis.Several species are harvested for heart of palm, a vegetableeaten in salads.Sap of the nipa palm Nypa is used to make vinegar.Palm sap is sometimes fermented to produce palm wine or toddy, an alcoholic beverage common in parts of Africa, India, and the Philippines. It is also drunk, fresh, as neera, and is a refreshing drink that is consumed until sundown, after which it starts to ferment.Palmyra and date palm sap is harvested in Bengal, India, to process into gur and jaggery.

Biological Source : Dracaena derived from the romanizedform of the Ancient Greek drakaina, "female dragon",family asparagalesuses :ornamental : Some shrubby species, such as D. deremensis,D. fragrans, D. godseffiana, D. marginata, and D. braunii,are popular as houseplants.Many of these are toxic topets, though not humans, according to the ASPCA amongothers. Rooted stem cuttings of D. braunii are widelymarketed in the U.S.A. and the UK as "lucky bamboo",. A bright red resin,dragon's blood, is produced fromD.draco and,in ancient times,from D.cinnabari. Moderndragon's blood is however more likely to be from the unrelatedDaemonorops rattan palms.chemical constituent :Compound 5, a glyceroglycolipid-related compound assigned as (2S)-1-O-linoleoyl-3-O-beta-D-galactopyranosylglycerol, was found to induce apoptotic cell death in HL-60 cells with an IC50 value of 25.8 microM. 08

Biological Source :Kolis is a smooth shrub or small treereaching a height of 8 meters. Leaves are leathery,oblong-ovateto oblong elliptic, 6 to 14 centimeters long, green, shining,and usually pointed at both ends. Flowers are faintly scented,Chemical Constituent : Plant yields alkaloids, triterpenes,flavonoids and saponins.. Aerial parts yield umbelactone, beta-amyrin, ursolic acid,oleanolic acid, sitosterol and its glucoside. .n-hexane extract of roots of M.umbellatum yielded octocosonoic acid, cerotic acid, ethyl palmitate, palmitic acidand butyric acid. Fruit and leaves are astringent..Leaf is spasmolytic, hypoglycemic.Uses : . Decoction of roots used for excessive menstrualdischarge.. Infusion or lotion of leaves used as astringent in ophthalmia.. Leaf considered astringent and antileucorrheic.. In India, leaves used in the treatment of gonorrhea.

MARANTHA Biological source: It is genus of flowering plant of Marantha Leuconeura.Family : MaranthaceaeChemical Constituent : Rosomarinic Acid can foundin this plant. Chlorogenic acid and rutin in maranthaceaespacies.Uses: It is used as indoor plant for pots or hanging baskets. In tropical area ,it forms an attractive ground cover for Shady areas.

CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS:It consists of flavonoids Schaftosideand Isoschaftoside,terpenoids and saponins.USES:A decoction of the crushed and boiled leaf is used as a wash to treat stomachache.• The roots and bark are antibacterial and antiinflammatory and are also used in the treatment of various skin disorders.• It is often grown as an ornamental and houseplant in tropical gardens.

ANTHORA Synonym:anthora,yellow monkshood,or healing wolfsbaneBiological source:Aconitum anthora, is a yellow floweringplant species of the genus Aconitum in the family Ranunculaceae.Chemical constituent:Flavonol glycosides such as quercetin3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside-7-O-(6-E-p-coumaroyl)-β-D-glucopyranosyl(1→ 3) - α-L-rhamnopyranoside,quercetin 3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside-7-O-β-Dglucopyranosyl -(1→3)-α-L-rhamnopyranoside,quercetin 3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside-7-O-(6-E-caffeoyl)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→3)-α-L-rhamnopyranoside were isolated from the aerial parts of AburnatiiGayerUses:The root of the Anthora, was reputed to be a good antidote, and counter-poison.The plant itself is extremely toxic to livestock and humans. Even a small dose can be deadly.It has been used externally against rheumatism and deep pain, but it can irritate the skin.Internally, it has beenused for weak pulse, vegetable poisons, feverish colds,pneumonia, croup, heart conditions, and cardiac arrest.

Spathiphyllumsynonym : spathe flower or peace lilies.Biological Source: Spathiphyllum is a genus of about 40 species of monocotyledonous floweringplants in the family Araceae.Uses:The Peace Lily excels in the removal of alcohols,acetone,trichloroethylene,benzene and formaldehyde.Its ability to remove air pollutants and its excellentperformance in all categories make it a most valuable houseplant.

CATHARANTHUSLatin name : Cantharanthus roseus, formerly Vinca rosea or Lochnera rosea.Indian names : Sadabahar, Sadapushpi, Sadaphuli, Bar-amasi etc.Common names: Periwinkle,Vinca,Rosy periwinkle,Mad-agascar periwinkle,Cape periwinkle, Old maid, etc.Biological source:It is obtained from the entire plant of Catharanthus roseus belonging to family Apocynaceae.Chemical constituents: Active constituents are Vincistri-ne,Vinblastine.The plant produces about 130 of these co-mpounds.Uses:Vinca is used as anticancer (treatment of Hodgkin’s disease and leukemia).The leaves are used to control di-abetes and high blood pressure.The alkaloids alsooffer sedative and tranquilizing properties.It relieves muscle pain and depression.

CESTRUM NOCTURNUMSynonym:night-blooming jasmine,night-blooming cestrum,lady of the night,queen of the night,night-bloomi-ng jessam-ine.Biological source:It is a species of Cestrum in the plant family Solanaceae (the potato family). It is native to the West Indies,but naturalized in South Asia.Chemical constituents: Little is known about the chemical composition of C.nocturnum.The sapogenin steroids tigo-genine, smilagenine and yuccagenine have been found inthe leaves.The leaves also contain traces of nicotine.Thecomposition of the amazing scent of the plant is not well understood,but many find that simply inhaling the perfume deeply is enough to inducapsychoactive state.The berries and the leaves are said to induce hallucinations when con-sumed.C. nocturnum may cause poisoning in both humans and animals.Uses: Antipyretic, Anti-inflammatory, Antibacterial, Antioxid-ant, Antitumour, Diuretic. Plant extracts have shown larvici-dal activity against the mosquito Aedes aegypti while showi-ng no toxicity to fish. Plant extracts cause Hematological changes in the freshwater fish when exposed to sub lethal concentration of this plant.

SontakaSynonym: Butterfly Ginger Lily, White Ginger Lily, Garland Flower, Botanical name: Hedychium coronarium Family: Zingiberaceae (Ginger family)Genus: HedychiumSpecies: H. coronariumChemical constituent:Dried rhizome contains: starch, 3 %; glucose,4.58 %; albumen, 1.65 %; fats, 0.33%; resinous acid, 3.6%; resinousacid,3.66%,resin,5.93 %;extractive matter, 0.91%;essential oil,13.75%organic acids, 5.5%; cellulose, 29.68%.The flower yields a fragrant essential oil; the rhizome, a volatile oil.Study on rhizomes yielded coronarin -D, coronarin -D ethyl ether, coronarin -E, and a new diterpene identified as (+)-14β-hydroxylabda-8(17),12-dieno-16,15-lactone, assigned the trivial name of isocoronari-n-D. Several labdane-type diterpenes–coronarin A, B, C, D, E, and F have been isolated from the rhizome.Uses: H. coronarium is mainly used for ornamental purposes, in gard-ens and as cut flowers.The fragrant flowers are used extensively in garlands (or leis) in India, Japan and Hawaii. It is used to make perfumes. The rhizomes are edible and have been used for starch extraction.
