PERFORMANCE LEADS TO SATISFACTION Monsanto has 28 years of proven performance with Roundup" agricultural herbicides. Monsanto formulations experts have evaluated years of practical experience and field studies to develop the form- ulations that work best. No competitor can reproduce the rich history of innovation, development and on-farm experience that Monsanto brings to its Roundup family of herbicides. In fact, 110 other herbicide controls more weeds. "I really have not seen weed resistance in this area. Any weed problems come from guys who try to skimp on rates and are not using the full rate. I have used Roundup Ready" soybeans followed by Roundup Ready com for the last 5 years on my farm and I have had no problems with weed escapes or resistance." John Boettcher Spirit Lake, IA AN GING PERSPECTIVE ON RESISTANCE • It is difficult to predict whether or where resistance might develop. • Only two weed species in the US have shown resistance to glyphosate after 28 years of commercial use: - Rigid Ryegrass: controlled through tank mixing with graminicide for fewer incident reports since 2000. - Marestail: easily and economically controlled by tank mixing with 2,4-D . and!or Dicamba. • When compared to other chemistries such as triazines (atrazine), and ALS inhibitors (Pursuit", Raptor", Canopy", etc.), resistance to glyphosate is low. • Resistance is easily and economically managed. In spite of the fact that there are more than 60 weeds resistant to triazines, Atrazine continues to be applied on approximately 70% ofthe corn acres in the US as a tank-mix with other herbicides. THE SCIENCE BEHIND ROUNDUP HERBICIDE • For unsurpassed weed control, a lethal dose or concentration of herbicide must be delivered within minutes into plant tissue above the lethal threshold to control it. • Weeds can sense the effects of glyphosate and start a rescue mission unless a lethal dose of herbicide is delivered rapidly to all parts of the plant. • With a sub-lethal dose, a plant can regrow and require an additional application. • Roundup WeatherMAXTMis engineered to rapidly begin delivering a lethal dose of weed-killing power within minutes and kills the entire weed. Residual herbicides used in conventional cropping systems deliver the most lethal dose at application and may deliver a sub-lethal dose for weeds that sprout after application. • Roundup WeatherMAX does not provide residual weed control making it less likely for weed resistance to develop. The chart below details how herbicide chemistry is the most important factor to consider when determining the potential for resistance. AN GINGPERSPECTIVE ON RESISTANCE• It is difficult to predict whether or where resistance might develop.• Only two weed species in the US have shown resistance to glyphosate after

28 years of commercial use:- Rigid Ryegrass: controlled through tank mixing with graminicide for

fewer incident reports since 2000.- Marestail: easily and economically controlled by tank mixing with 2,4-D. and!or Dicamba.

• When compared to other chemistries such as triazines (atrazine), and ALSinhibitors (Pursuit", Raptor", Canopy", etc.), resistance to glyphosate is low.

• Resistance is easily and economically managed. In spite of the fact thatthere are more than 60 weeds resistant to triazines, Atrazine continues to beapplied on approximately 70% ofthe corn acres in the US as a tank-mix withother herbicides.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND ROUNDUP HERBICIDE• For unsurpassed weed control, a lethal dose or concentration of herbicide must be

delivered within minutes into plant tissue above the lethal threshold to control it.• Weeds can sense the effects of glyphosate and start a rescue mission unless

a lethal dose of herbicide is delivered rapidly to all parts of the plant.• With a sub-lethal dose, a plant can regrow and require an additional application.• Roundup WeatherMAXTMis engineered to rapidly begin delivering a lethal dose of

weed-killing power within minutes and kills the entire weed. Residual herbicidesused in conventional cropping systems deliver the most lethal dose at applicationand may deliver a sub-lethal dose for weeds that sprout after application.

• Roundup WeatherMAX does not provide residual weed control making it less likelyfor weed resistance to develop. The chart below details how herbicide chemistry isthe most important factor to consider when determining the potential for resistance.

DEAD WEEDS DON'T PRODUCE SEEDS!

Roundup WeatherMAX isdesigned for tough-to-control

weeds such as:

• Lambsquarters• Morningglory• Ragweed• Waterhemp

The continued growth and adoptionof Roundup Ready crops stem from

a 97% satisfaction rate among farmerswho choose Roundup Ready crops. Z

MAXIMIZE AGRONOMIC AND ECONOMIC VALUE• Growers recognize and value the economic advantages of Roundup Ready Systems

for unsurpassed weed control, crop safety and maximum yield potential instead ofconventional systems: I

- Soybeans: $8.60 more value per acre- Corn: $9.20 more value per acre- Cotton: $13.10 more value per acre

• Grower adoption and use shows their understanding in that it is not profitableto reduce their net returns by $8 to $13 dollars per acre while trying to preventsomething that mayor may not occur. I

STEWARDSHIP RECOMMENDATIONSFollow these easy weed management steps:1. Base weed control programs upon local argronomic needs to provide complete

weed control.2. Always start clean with a weed-free field.3. Apply Roundup WeatherMAX when weeds are within labeled heights for better

coverage and unsurpassed control.4. Always use full, labeled rates for maximum control. The use rate should target the

most tough-to-control species in the field.S. If initial application is delayed and weeds are larger, a higher rate may be required.6. Scout field for possible escapes and take appropriate actions for effective control.7. Report any incidence of non-performance to your local Retailer or

Monsanto Representative.

Always consult the current Monsanto Technology Use Guide and RoundupRewards" program brochure for specific recommendations and details.

DEAD WEEDS DON'T PRODUCE SEEDS!Always apply the full-labeled rates - essential for effective weed control.

Weed escapes are more likely to occur when herbicides are appliedbelow labeled rates.

REMEMBER ...• Glyphosate has a unique mode of action.• It is difficult to predict whether or where resistance might develop.• Resistance is easily and economically managed.• Monsanto weed control recommendations are based on science in conjunction with local experts.• The Roundup Ready System is a better economical solution to weed control with less risk of

developing resistance.• Roundup herbicides and the Roundup Ready System continue to lead the industry in customer satisfaction.
