PSI means..,Pollutant Standard IndexProvide;

◦Accurate & easily undesirable information about air quality

six pollutant parameters◦sulphur dioxide (SO2), ◦particulate matter (PM10) ◦fine particulate matter (PM2.5)◦nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ◦carbon monoxide (CO) ◦ozone (O3)

Water Quality Index (WQI) The WQI is based on the results

chemical tests:1. Dissolved Oxygen (DO)2. Fecal Coliform (FC)3. pH4. Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD)5. Turbidity6. Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), etc.

These tests were chosen because they significantly impact aquatic organisms

Water Quality Index’s (WQI) Formula

13

SIi =the subindex of ith parameterqi = the rating based on concentration of ith parameter n = the number of parameters

(Ramakrishnaiah et al, 2009)

SummaryBy using Environmental Index,

◦preparing a description of the environmental setting for the proposed project

◦Gathering and summarizing extant data◦Communicating information on existing

environmental quality◦Providing a basic data for impact

prediction and assessment24
