ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE ON MICROOGRANISM IN TERRESTRIAL ENVIRONMENT

“He created the human being. And has taught him intelligible speech. The sun and moon rotate in a predestined orbit.

The plants and trees prostate before Him. He raised the heavens and set up

everything in balance. So that you would maintain justice. Therefore maintain just measure and do not transgress against the Balance”. (Surah Al-Rahman: 3-9)

MICROORGANISMS IN SURFACE SOIL

PROTOZOA• Heterotrophic and

survive by consuming bacteria, yeast, fungi and algae.

• Found mainly in the top 15 to 20 cm of the soil.

• Involved in the decomposition of soil organic matter.

• “Allah splits the seed and kernel. He brings forth the living from the dead, and produces the dead out of the living. That is Allah, so

how are you misguided?” (Surah Al-An’am:95)

Fungi• Comprises of yeast, molds and

mushroom.

• Contribute a higher proportion total soil microbial biomass.

• Yeast metabolize by fermentation which is less numerous than aerobic forming fungi

• Soil fungi normally found associate with soil particles. Numbers decrease rapidly with increasing soil depth.

• Important in nutrient cycling, decomposition of organic matter either simple or complex

• “Oh Prophet You say: Call upon those Gods whom you claim to besides Allah; as they don’t control even a tiny particle’s weight in either heaven or on earth” (Surah

Saba: 22)

• The Arabic word ٍ ة ذَرَّ means very tiny particle . Through this verse that He, himself, controls the wide unseen world of microbes. The world of microbes is hidden to human beings and hence we don’t have ability to see for example, decomposition of organic matter that require a number of sub processes. The speed at which the decomposition occurs, called the "rate of decomposition", depends on the temperature, moisture and chemical composition of the organic matter.

• This shows Allah control over all things and as human being we should be thankful to our creator.

“Glory be to Him Who created all the pairs: from what the earth produces and from

themselves and from things unknown to

them”. (Surah Yassin:36)

• Existence of life forms unknown to people on the revelation of the Qur'an.

• Living things that can’t be seen by naked eyes can be discovered by using microscope.

• People learn about the existence of these life forms.

MICROORGANISMS IN DEEP SUBSURFACE ENVIRONMENTS

• There was a research done in 1980’s states that microbes can help us in cleaning up our oily mess.

• It will feeds on the soil bubbling from the sea floor, and it can also eat plastic (plastic eating microbe)

“We have spread out the earth, fixed mountains thereupon and caused everything to grow its proper weight. To provide you and those for whose sustenance you are not responsible, with the necessities of life”. (Surah Al-Hijir: 19-20)

Conclusion

“ We shall (continue to) show them Our evidence in the world and within their souls until it becomes clear that

the Quran is the truth. Is it not sufficient for you that your Lord

witness all things?” (Surah Fussilat :53)
