DESCRIPTION
On 10 and 11 November the EIP Raw Materials organised a special event in Brussels (Radisson Blue Hotel) bringing together all coordinators of the 80 approved EIP Raw Materials Commitments. The goal of the meeting was to create synergies between the various RMCs. This is the presentation of Peter Tom Jones (General Coordinator of EURELCO) concerning the status of the EURELCO RMC.

Scope ELFM
• Enhanced Landfill Mining = • “integrated valorisation of landfilled waste streams as metals,
other materials and energy (carriers), using innovative transformation technologies and respecting the most stringent social and ecological criteria.” (http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.jclepro.2012.05.021)
• ELFM is both relevant for • ex situ mining (conditioning and excavation of waste +
subsequent processing and upcycling) • in situ mining (where metals and energy are generated from
the landfill body without excavating the waste).
• Various landfill types • Mixed USW/IW landfills • Monolandfills containing industrial residues and tailings

EURELCO targets both USW landfills and landfills containing industrial residues and tailings
