A TRUE SHORT STORY BY DR LT. COL. B. J. SINGH.MD,FISC,FIMA,FIMSA,CCFN,MISCCM,INDIA.MNASPE,MWMO,NOMINATED/AWARD ED IN ABSENTIA FOR BHARAT CHIKATSAK RATNA,BHARAT JYOTI AWARDS. Recalling the past memories of my childhood days,I am fondly reminded of the black labarador pet dog, named peter.I remember being so friendly with him that after school ,we would rush home and find him eagerly waiting for us and no sooner we were close to him he would leap tall on us and lick and kiss us with affection. Dogs can be such fun and nice company too and very faithful as well.once when my elder brother jogie(now retd gov. gen and former army chief) was watching the neighbours hhuge alsation dog being forcibly washed by a servant in the open, this ferotious dog broke loose and in a mad frenzie made a dash for my brother and caught hold of his leg and started to badly moul him, till peter standing close to me came to his rescue by attacking the big alsation dog. In this fury my brother was left alone and both dogs lept in a deadly fight in which peter was very badly bitten and left heavily limping and bleeding with rich black shiny fur tithered and smeared with blood at multiple sites.this life saving act was heroic in saving my brother and can never forgotten by our family. On the second occasion when we lost our black buffalo in dehradun,it was not traced inspite of reporting to police, however on third day and to our astonishment we found we found her return home with peter on its back as this true story goes this buffalo refused to give milk unless peter was by her side and was at times allowed to suckle the buffalo. This speaks so high of peter and by now he had secured a prime place as one of the family members and he would share all our sorrows and happy moments through his pretty bright brown eyes and his glances he could communiocate with me.how I wish he was able to talk. On a third occasion he saved our bunglow from being burgled.we were living in a very big princely old villa in bolaram secunderabad which was once used by british garrison troops in cantonment area and adjacent to bolarum raily station.this villa had a lot of vegetations

On a third occasion he saved our bunglow from being burgled.we were living in a very big princely old villa in bolaram secunderabad which was once used by british garrison troops in cantonment area and adjacent to bolarum raily station.this villa had a lot of vegetations growing wild all around the verandah outside where we slept in summers.one dark summer night while we were fast asleep we were woken up by the bleating of our pet goat pegged close to the verandah and constant barking of peter.my uncle and me got up pulled out the torch and threw the light all around and to our plight we found a half clad man with oily skin running in the shrubs.he was later caught and suspected to be a thief and handed over to local police.

This was a noble act and after which we nick named our dog as noble peter.there after there are so many small small acts of bravery and nobleness for which he earned a centre place in our marwah family.by now he had aged around 12 yrs of age and limped and spent most of his time at the feet of our late mother Rani jaspal kaur marwah.on one ill fated day he came under a speeding truck on jammu Srinagar high way at udhampur where our father was posted in army recovery workshop ,he drgged himself with hind limbs crushed under the truck and reached home and died at our mothers feet after sipping a few drops of water.

Late fatherlt col jaswant singh marwah was a dog lover too so we buried peter in a dug in grave besides this hut and gave him a ceremonious burial with wreaths of flowers and the toys he payed with.

This true to life story will touch the hearts of all dog lovers and may it spread the message of love affection, discipline ,dedication to duties and faithfull ness exemplified by’’ noble peter ‘’,our pet dog.let us take a pledge to save all our rich flaura and fauna besides animal species on this beautiful planet of ours.SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT,BE ECO FRIENDLY,POLLUTION FREE AND NUTRITIONALLY SOUND-BY DIRECTOR THE ENVIRON A REGISTERED TRADEMARKED GLOBAL CONCEPT BY DR LT COL B J SINGH,MD,FISC,FIMSA,FIMA,CCFN,MISCCM,INDIA,MWMO,MNASPE.
