Across The Board

Across The Board have a very unique style and youth subculture. They have a love and passion for double kick , crazy riffs and soft melodies. The style of the band is simply fun, which is something you can hear through their music and see in their performance.

Engaging the audience is key to their performances and is perfect for the rock alternative genre.

The band do not have a distinct style at first glance, but you soon realise a t-shirt/shirt and jeans is the extent of their wardrobe, which is perfect for their look and feel.

Youth subcultures offer participants an identity outside of that ascribed by social institutions such as family, work, home and school. Youth subcultures

that show a systematic hostility to the dominant culture are sometimes described as countercultures.” - Wikipedia

Examples of youth subcultures.BBC Switch’s ‘Them’ is a perfect example of what

youth subcultures are, and how they evolve with generations.

‘Them’ was an online, interactive series of programs about teenage labels in the UK.

It studies the contrast in different lifestyles, people of a similar age choose to live. Whether this be for popularity, to express their personality, or simply because it’s ‘easy’.

Stereotypes Every teenage, whether they know it or not, is one of the many ‘labels’.

Music strongly follows these stereotypes, in order to let the audience immediately know the genre of music, the personality and attitudes of the artists.

When planning my music video, I will need to consider the look and style of my video, as well as the band!

By researching the band, and finding out about their individual life styles I will be able to easily fit them in to one of the many stereotypes. This will ensure that audiences immediately understand what genre of music they are, and what their lifestyles are like within two minutes of a video.

FASHION – I do not care for fashion… Band tee-shirts, baggy shorts, torn jeans, piercings and tattoos.

HOBBIES – I am a true music fan, so respect all genres and tastes. If I haven’t got an injury by the time I leave a gig… well then,

it’s been a rubbish gig. I head bang and get very very sweaty. I play a rock musical instrument in a band. I’m most happy when having a good time at a gig with my friends. I can scream for 16 hours straight, yet somehow never lose my voice. I head straight to the mosh-pit at any gig.

video, is to closely stick to the rock/alternative/indie stereotype that my chosen band represent.

- The Young Guns videos I have researched follow a very close style to what I want to follow.
