We used internet websites to conduct many different parts of our planning and research. I used YouTube on many occasions, especially in the planning stage

to look at different movies to help give us inspiration for our film and look at different features of horror movies, YouTube provides access to many online

videos. Freesound was widely used in the diegetic soundtrack of the clip, it is a library of thousands of

sound clips which can be integrated into productions after they are downloaded, fort the software we

used we had to use mp3 clips, which was a barrier for us at some stages, as we regularly found a sound clip ideal for our production, however it was not in the format which we required, so we could not use them, this was one of my main objectives in post-

production to complete the sound track of the piece, and decided on the Jonny Cash track as non-diegetic

soundtrack. IMDb was extremely useful in researching different films that are of similar genres to use, and to get an overview of the films. Da font is an online library of texts to use, which was where we

got our typography from, we spent a lot of time looking through the library searching for a text

appropriate to our production.

The blog allowed us to access each other's work, meaning that we could comment on and give

feedback on each other's posts so that we know how to improve it and what was wrong with

specific posts. A useful aspect of blogger is the iPhone application, which meant I could access my work on the go and edit it when I do not of access to a computer when I am on the go, this also made

uploading pictures easier as I could do it straight from my phone. Blogger also meant that we did

not have to carry our work around with us, which could lead to us potentially losing pieces . This

shows how web 2.0 has allowed us to make this blog as good as possible

Blogger also allowed us to do group posts which we could access from home, meaning that we all had

access to everything and add bits of knowledge that we have acquired to the posts from our accounts,

this overall made the experience easier

The use of Web 2.0

We used the Samsung SHD60 camera to film our piece, the camera was not good enough to film in the dark due to it having a lower resolution than some DSLRs’ and do not have as good a Depth of field . However on good benefit of it was that we could use the 9 box frame which assisted greatly with using the rules of thirds . These

The track and dolly was used numerous times within our clip, to start the sequence by getting closer to ant, and maybe more obviously the approach to the shed to build tension with intercutting. This piece of hardware allowed us to conduct smooth movement of the camera,

allowing for a professional looking finish. This piece of equipment was however rather tedious to carry around, especially on packed public

busses.

We had numerous problems in production which led to numerous failed shoots. One of the problems we experienced on the first few shots was a lack of lighting at our original location, which led to the footage having to be discarded, we attempted to use torches and candles but they were not good enough. So we decided to change

location so that it was better lighting, and then it all turned our well.

The use of technology in production

To edit our film we used the editing software premiere. We used continuity editing for our piece. This included

intercutting between the dolly going towards the shed. There is also an example of a fade when the title comes up on a

black screen and it fades back onto the dirt. We did not use any filters in our final piece as they did not make an

substantial difference to the shots regarding the amount of time it would take to do every scene. We did use a time lapse of clouds at the end of the production to show time passing, this was simply done by filming the sky for about 5 minutes then speeding it up in post production, this is an example of

after effects.

The sound mix is quite diverse within our clip. The most obvious feature is the non diagetic Jonny cash

soundtrack playing throughout, which was simply just downloaded of the internet and put into the piece on

premier. We also used some tension building soundtrack to be used in the dolly shot that gets closer to the shed,

which is made apparent by the volume being turned down for the Jonny cash song. We also used some extra diagetic sound in the form of the muffled screaming of the person that we believe to be in the shed, and also

the banging on the shed in which we recorded ourselves. We used continuity editing in our sequence which meant

putting the clips in time order even though they were not neccessarily shot in that order, this was made easy

by premiere

My main tasks for the editing were to assist in decisions about the editing, involving providing my opinion on how clips should be sequenced together, and occasionally trying my hand at putting clips together using premiere, as the actual capturing of the footage was my main task. And also I provided most of the sound for the production, and balancing the sound mix to make it

appropriate for our genre of movie. The font was also a key area in after effects in which I spent a sufficient amount of time, as it took us a while to find a font which gave ritualistic horror movie impressions.
