Welcome To The Masquerade
Synopsis• The film follows the main character Chris Bell and
his group of friends. The story sees them get invited to a masquerade ball, where Chris meets a girl there (Jessica) and the two form an instant connection. The night, however, ends badly with fights erupting meaning the two are separated from each other. Chris tries to find her again which causes conflicts within his group of friends. Can he find the girl of his dreams or will his friends stop him?
Target Audience• The target audience age will be 16 – 25• The film should appeal to both males and
females• Romance, love story, dancing (primarily for
females)• Action, Fighting, the characters themselves
(primarily for males)
Research (Trailers)
Research (Trailers)• I have studied similar teaser trailers to help get an
idea of what my teaser should include• One of the main inspirations is Baz Luhrmans
Romeo + Juliet, that didn’t have a teaser trailer but has helped in my research
• There aren’t many trailers for the genre I am doing so it was difficult finding similar ones
• For ideas of shot styles etc… I have watched other things with masquerade balls in it (A Doctor Who called “A Girl In The Fireplace” for example)
Research (Posters)
Research (Posters)• I’ve looked at various different movie posters, some
from the genre I’m doing and others from good posters
• I’m aiming to do a close up on someone wearing a mask as that is one of the main themes in my trailer
• This meant I’ve looked at posters which use close ups well and how they do them
• I’ve analysed common themes and conventions that they follow
Mood Board
• I’ve created 2 visual mood boards for my teaser trailer, each of them using Baz Luhrmans Romeo + Juliet in them as one of the main themes
• Since those mood boards I have found other inspiration, e.g. Onerepublic’s new music video for “All The Right Moves”
Teaser Plan• My teaser will start with a Mid-Shot of the main character putting on
his masquerade mask (from behind) then turning to face the camera. • The video will then zoom out to reveal a video wall of various people
wearing masquerade malls (similar to the Brady Bunch opening)• The video zoom out and video wall will last for 20 seconds, then
followed by 10 seconds of shots of various people getting ready for the masquerade, fading out after each shot of them. Overlapping these will be text asking, “What would you do, if one dance, could change your whole life?”
• There will then be 20-25 seconds of a montage of various scene’s from the film (all the previous scene’s are purely for the trailer).
• The last 5-10 seconds will be the title reveal and the billing box
Key Questions• One of the key questions will be the text that I
have shown in the trailer,
What Would You Do If One Dance Could Change Your Life?
• I’d want people to question what the actual film is about
• Who the main characters are• Why are the masks/Is the masquerade so
important

Locations• I will be filming my trailer in various locations as
there are a lot of different scene’s in my trailer• I plan to use Cardinal Place, The Roundhouse, The
Barbican and other places for my trailer• A lot of the scene’s will be shot indoors so I will be
using indoor lighting rather than natural lighting
Costumes-and /Props• For my teaser trailer as masquerade masks are a main
part of my film I have had to use masquerade masks• I currently own 12 different masks so will be letting
my actors use them• In terms of costumes, actors will just need to wear
their normal every day clothes for the shots.• Even the shots with actors wearing masquerade
masks will have the actors wearing normal clothes.
