Mickey MouseOf course Mickey Mouse wasn’t the first character created by Walt Disney,
but it was the most populor as older characters weren’t much succesful. Mickey's voice and personality were provided by Disney himself until 1947. Original name was "Mortimer", but the mouse was later renamed "Mickey" by Lillian Disney, who thought that the name Mortimer did not sound appealing. Mortimer eventually became the name of Mickey's rival for Minnie. The first animated short to feature Mickey, Plane Crazy was a silent film like all of Disney's previous works. Plane Crazy was released as a sound cartoon on March 17, 1929.
