The university of Coimbra was founded in 1290 by King D. Dinis.Currently, it is organized in 8 Collegies and it has about 20,000 students.

The University of Coimbra has many types of festivals, but we are going to write just about 3 of them: Queima das Fitas, Latada and Serenata.

The freshman reception runs in September and October, being for many students .......

A TIME OF TERROR (praxis)

Latada

It runs in October. This festival, also known as «Feast of

Cans» and the «Imposition of the chains», which is part of the week of freshmen ‘s reception.

After some hours

Serenata Every year, there is a traditional serenade. It takes place in the Old

Cathedral, located in Largo da Sé Velha.

Queima das Fitas

The first Queima das Fitas was organized by the students of the University of Coimbra, which is the oldest University of the country, and for many centuries the only one in Portugal.
