Foreign Folk Dances I• Foreign Dances- are always executed to understand better the culture of other countries through grace and precision.

• Dance- was used in war, in victory, in death, in sickness and in hunger to express their thoughts and feelings.

• Rhythm- is an essential element of dance.

• Folk dances- reflect of the culture of a period, the political, social, intellectual and religious nature of society.

Dance in China Fan dance- it was greatly developed in the 19th century, and redefined in the 20th century. It includes spectacular acrobatics as an important part of the action.costume: Girl- Chinese blouse and long, loose drawers of any color. Chinese sandal, a big fan.Music: is divided into six parts: A, B, C, D, E, and Finale.

Dance in Scotland Dancing for the Scottish was also a form of celebrating their victories and for the practice of regimental troops to relieve tension before the battle.Scottish music- is produced by bagpipes with the nine notes, fearless, and full of vitality.

Dance in ScotlandCostumes:

Male: short skirt, pleated and of wool material. Wool stockings in varied colors and with a bonnet adorned with a feather at the side.

Lady: white blouse with long puff sleeves and a full skirt, a wide shawl of bold plaid design over the shoulder, a pair of black shoes and white woolen stockings.

Dance in France“Minuet” is a showcase dance of the age of chivalry during the time of Louis XV.

- a court dance, very stately, graceful and dignified dance depicting the grandeur and magnificence of the court during that time.

Dance in France

Costumes: ladies and gentlemen opening the dance wear elaborate gowns and French attire.

The dominant color is white decorated with silver and gold trimmings.

Dance in RussiaRussian Peasant Dance (Troika)- refers to the two horses which traditionally drew sleighs of the Russian nobility. The boy at the center is the coachman.

Dance in RussiaCostumes: women wear full skirts, white or bright-colored cotton material. The white blouse with the very wide elbow- length sleeve is tucked into a jumper dress with fitted bodice and flared skirt. A wide- kerchief is tied around the head with a color contrasted to the color of the jumper and the skirt. The women wear black shoes or black boots and black stockings.Music: 4/8.Part A, Part B.

Dance in Israelthe dances of Israelites have been very religious or spiritual in nature since the earliest time.Hinneih Mah Tov- means “Behold how good pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity. ”

Description of the Dance

Music: 2/4 sets. 1 and 2 and or 1, 2

Dancers: form a single line, one in front of the other, hands joined at hip level.

Girl: white short- sleeved blouse heavily embroidered with beads, with scarf of sash, skirt of green and red and ankle- length with matching high heeled slippers.

Boy: “Blousy” with white shirt, a low- cut vest, tight fitting pants with silver button.

A sombrero is worn over the head.

Dance in England Barbry bell (English Dance)

old- fashioned country dance was discovered by Peter Kennedy in Northumberland, England among the village people.

Dance Mixers

is a social dance.

Its an informal dance and there is a changing in partner.

Dance in Germany Varsovienne- the Germans are very expressive in their dance. The “landler” is a dance common dance with a lot of variations.Ritual Dance-are dance during the carnival.Steps: Walking and skipping steps.Music: ¾ A, B, CFormation: a square of four couples.

Dance in GermanyCostumes:

Women: white cotton blouse with a high neck and small collar.

They vary in colors and design.

The skirt is either black or any dark color with an apron.

Woolen stockings are used in low black shoes.

Men: knee- length breaches a varied colors. The shirt is embroidered elaborately and covered by a jacket. The hats are either black or green with silver ornaments and a feather. Its center point hangs down at the back of the neck.
