• About To Carry On...• Mimi Cohen deconstructs the life and

legacy of 60’s icon Laura Nyro, composer, lyricist, singer, and pianist to reveal to us, twelve years after her untimely death, the life insights that Nyro knew when she, at 16, composed “And When I Die.” Cohen’s uncanny resemblance to Nyro, both physically and vocally, make her stunningly compelling as she captures the truly inspired Nyro through her songs and adaptations of actual events and conversations with her family and managers, Artie Mogull and David Geffen, all performed by Ms. Cohen. Cohen and Nyro encapsulate for us the struggle to be heard in a very loud world and the flight of soul that is possible when life and art find a voice.

Who’s WhoMimi Cohen (Writer/Producer/Performer)This is Mimi’s debut as a playwright.  After serving as one half of the avant-pop duo, Gene and Mimi, and

singing at every college and pizza parlor that would have them, Mimi went off and had a couple of kids.  While staying home and making peanut butter sandwiches has its own rewards, Mimi was extremely moved when, in 1997, she heard of the death of her musical idol, Laura Nyro. The play tonight is the culmination of a thirteen-year journey back to the love of her life; singing amazing pop songs. Mimi’s goal – to turn you on to Laura.       

Gretchen Cryer (Director)With her DePauw University classmate, Nancy Ford, they became the only female composer-lyricist team in New

York theater (Now Is The Time For All Good Men in 1967,Obie/Drama Desk/Outer Critics Circle award-winning The Last Sweet Days of Isaac in 1970, Shelter in 1973). Gretchen may be best known for starring in and writing the book and lyrics for the 1978 Joseph Papp-produced “I’m Getting My Act Together and Taking It On The Road.” Broadway roles for Gretchen included Little Me (1962), 110 in the Shade (1963) and 1776 (1969). All three of her children have joined her in the performing arts business (Robin, Shelley, Jon).

Jeffrey Klitz (Orchestration/Co-Music Director)Currently music director, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, in Toronto, opening on Broadway, March 2011.  Music

director/pianist for Judy Collins, Joel Grey, Betty Buckley, Tommy Tune; arranger and orchestrator for Vicki Clark, Judy Kuhn, Andrea Marcovicci, among others. He is a graduate of Yale. Credits include - Broadway: Hot Feet, Lennon (Music Director); Song and Dance, On Your Toes (Conductor and Choral Arranger). Other Broadway:Chicago, Grand Hotel, Stardust. Joseph Jefferson Award, Goodman Theatre’s The House of Martin Guerre.

Lon Hoyt (Co-Music Director) Lon Hoyt was also music supervisor for the Hairspray national tour and Toronto company(and the film!). Other

credits: Dream a Little Dream(Supervisor), The Rocky Horror Show, Footloose, Street Corner Symphony, Forever Plaid, Song of Singapore, The Diva Is Dismissed, Return to the Forbidden Planet, Blackbirds of Broadway, Calamity Jane, 42nd Street and Anything Goes. As an actor, he had lead roles on Broadway in Tommy, Baby, Leader of the Pack, Starlight Express and Rock ‘N Roll! The First 5,000 Years. He can be heard playing piano for Whoopi Goldberg in the film Boys on the Side. Most recently, he was the Associate Music Director for the Broadway musical Hair and will perform the same duties this spring for Catch Me If You Can.  Lon attended Cornell University.
