• They are an American motion-picture studio that introduced the first genuine talking picture (1927).

• The company was founded by four brothers, Harry, Albert, Samuel, and Jack Warner, who were the sons of Benjamin Eichelbaum, an immigrant Polish cobbler and peddler.

• The brothers began their careers showing moving pictures in Ohio and Pennsylvania on a traveling basis. Beginning in 1903 they started acquiring movie theatres, and they then moved into film distribution.

Facts about Universal!• Universal Studio is the largest movie studio in the world and is one of the oldest in the US. While the

Hollywood studio is the original one, there are now similar parks built all around the world, including in Singapore, Dubai and Japan.

• Universal Studios Hollywood was first and foremost a movie production studio for most of its life. Opened in 1909 as the IMP (International Moving Pictures), it produced its first film in 1914, a historical war movie called Damon and Pythias.

• In 1910, the studio was open to the public, allowing visitors to see how films were made.

• In 1959, MCA bought the studio in order to start making TV shows and programs in the smaller rooms and studio facilities. In 1961, the studio started offering backstage tours to visitors through small tram buses and trains that would stop at different stages in between takes and filming.

• Famous films produced at Universal Studios Hollywood include To Kill A Mockingbird, Hitchcock's The Birds, Showboat and Spartacus.

• On 12 November 2011, it was announced that EMI has sold its recorded music operations to Universal music group for £1.2 billion ($1.9billion) and its music publishing operations to a Sony-led consortium for $2.2 billion. Among the other companies that had competed for the recorded music business was Warner music group which was reported to have made a $2 billion bid. However, IMPALA has said that it would fight the merger, and the merger has yet to be approved.

• There had been a forerunner of the 1984 movie "The Philadelphia Experiment", which had been produced by EMI and was banned by a US court, because it was to close to the real story of the Philadelphia Experiment of 1943.

Spotify• Spotify is important in the UK music industry because of the way it is designed/made.

Its elegant and simple and in a consumer-friendly proposition. It entered the market at the perfect timing, as broadband was introduced and a rapidly growing amount of people in the UK were getting smartphones and data plans. Additionally, markets with Spotify saw an average digital growth rate of 43% compared to 9.3% for Spotify-less markets.Spotify is a music streaming service with desktop applications and is available for download on Mac OS X, Linux and Microsoft Windows.

• It was launched in 2008 and by September 2010 it already had around 10 million users. An active Facebook account is required to use Spotify, unless the user has registered for a Spotify-only account before 22 September 2011. A 6 month free trial period is activated upon initial login with a Facebook account, where a user can listen to an unlimited amount of music supported by visual and radio style advertising. After the trial, Spotify will make tracks unavailable once they are played 5 times and has a listening limit of ten hours per month. An "Unlimited" subscription removes advertisements and time limits and a "Premium" subscription introduces extra features such as higher bitrate streaming, offline access to music and mobile app access.

Napster• Napster was founded by 19 year old, Shawn Fanning in 1999, Napster first

became popular on college campuses. However, in 2001, the web based service was shut down by a court order. As it was subject to violating the rules of copyright. It was too seen to compete with the classical offline distribution channels as it allowed users to conveniently share music over the internet.The music industry made the these claims against Napster.
