In this post-modern era music videos are used in order to promote the artist and the song that they are trying to sell. Today, most of the top selling songs usually have music videos to go with them. With the rise in popularity of video streaming sites such as YouTube, leads to artists wanting to make music videos as they actually get more money depending on how many views their video gets. The improvement of technology has impacted music videos in the way that the quality of the actual video its self is much better and allows more creative freedom with what they could do. For example the music group ‘The Gorillaz’ have all of their music videos digitally animated.

1990-1999

Losing my religion – REM (1991) This music video takes place in a single room and features of lot of religious symbolism and visuals. My name is – Eminem (1999) This music video has become one of Eminem’s most iconic music videos and was ranked #97 on NME 100 greatest music videos. 2000-2009

Californication – Red Hot Chilli Peppers (2000) This music video is the bands most watched videos on YouTube with over 250 million views. The video is set in a fictional game where each band member is a different character doing various different game adventures. I Write Sins Not Tragedies – Panic! At the Disco (2006) The first single by the band to have a music video features a strange wedding attended by circus performers. 2010- now

Moves like Jagger – Maroon 5 (2011) One of the most popular Maroon 5 songs, it pays tribute in the song and in the video to the Rolling Stones star Mick Jagger. Heathens – Twenty one pilots (2016) This music video features the due in the fictional DC prison as prisoners and the performing on a small stage at the prison, it also features clips from the movie ‘Suicide squad’ as the song features on the soundtrack for the film.
