Terrestrial channels ITV (Funding)

Terrestrial channels like ITV are funding based channels that shows adverts, sponsorships like how Britain got talent is currently sponsored by moneysupermarket.com. And product placement again with ITV 1 with Nestle Café where they placed Dolce Gusto machine worth over £100,000 placed in the kitchen of “this Morning” television programme.

On the 12th of June 2007 ITV created ITV player where you can view channels that you missed the passed 30 days, this was very successful when it was launched and to make it more successful they signed a contract with PS3 where they can view ITV player their.

ITV is owned by ITV plc, ITV plc was formed when Granada plc and Carlton Communications merged together in 2004.

BBC launched BBC Iplayer in Christmas day, 2007, where you can stream and download programmes like angry boys and top gear, this is also a big step up with the way you can view television. The BBC Iplayer was also launched in ps3.

BBC are owned by the crown, and BBC owns BBC 2 & 3. ITV also are owned by independent television company. The BSKYB also owns 7.5% of the company. They are majority owned by the Uk people by them funding them, by paying TV license of £142.27p.

Like I said on the ownership they get their funding by the UK people by us paying over £100.00.

Independent channels UKTV (ownership)

The independent company I am going to talk about is UKTV, UKTV is a digital and satellite television network, formed in a joint venture between BBC Worldwide, and with subsidiaries of the British Broadcasting Corporation and virgin media. It owns channels like; Watch, Gold, Dave, Home, Alibi, Blighty, yesterday, good food, Eden and really.

Independent channels UKTV (funding)

UKTV are working with Tesco as they are going to be the first ad funded TV series, where the contestant make their favorite recipe, and the eight best recipe will be taken part of a cook off programmes to find the peoples cook. The program will be scheduled this September. They also acquirer funding through sponsorships for example Old Speckled Hen, they also show adverts, and they show repeat like top gear on Dave, so they have a contract with the bbc to show top gear X amount of times a month.

Independent channels UKTV (technology)

UKTV can be viewed by using digital, i.e. Freeview, and have an internet that you can go on to watch or read about the programmes that sends you link to other programmes like Dave, UKTV gold, really etc.

TV Providers (technology)

TV Providers are company’s like Sky, British Sky Broadcasting and and Freeview. they install Dishes and Boxes. It works by the box signaling to the dish, the dish moves to a specific place which is then sent to out of space then back down to earth again to your TV. (you have to have a TV antenna for this to work).

Sky make their money by giving customers dishes and box you have to pay them a small fee and they will have to pay for the package monthly raging for £20 - £60. they also have phone and broadband package which will cost them £20 – 30 a month.

BSKY B – is owns a lot of news corporation and big TV programmes, they own:

TV provider virgin (technology)

The technology used in virgin media are the same with sky but they only use cable TV. The package varies from £20 – 40. virgin, again like sky uses phone and broadband line package, which is around £12.00 a month.

TV Providers Virgin (funding)

Virgin makes their money by using their technology and by advertising and talking about their new deals in the internet. They have sponsorship with Yamaha British superbike team, this is a 6 figure deal with their seven year relationship.

Virgin media are owned by 3 top investors and those are Capital world investors, who owns the majority of the company by 12.4%, capital research global investors who is the second largest shareholders by 10.8%, and fidelity management and research company by 9.6%.

Free view & Free sat (technology)

Free view has very different technology to sky, with sky you have to have a satellite that goes through the analogue Ariel on your roof. In the other hand with virgin there are wires under the ground but if you don’t have the cable in your area you cannot have virgin.

???? owns Freeview online, and BSKYB owns sky. The other different between Freeview and sky is that Freeview is a non profit business whereas sky is healthy profitable company that makes a revenue of roughly £5,912 million. Freeview is also linked to the government and is also a joint venture of BBC, BSKYB and crown castle international.
