Let’s unveil the flexibility of Storegrid Deployment.

Deployment in Single Laptop / Desktop.

Peer-Peer(P2P) or Grid Deployment .

Dedicated Backup Server Deployment (Client-Server) .

Type of Deployment

Components of STOREGRID

Client Only: This Computer will backup on to other computers. Other Computers will not backup to this Computer

Server Only: Other Computers will backup to this computer. This Computer can not backup to other Computers.

Client and Server: Allow the computer to backup on to other Computers and other Computers to backup to this computer as well

Replication Server: Other Store Grid Backup Servers can Replicate their data to this Server for Redundancy.

Deployment in single Laptop / Desktop

You have a single Laptop. You want to take Data backup on External USB Hard Disk through StoreGrid ? How do you configure StoreGrid ?

Page 5: StoreGrid Deployment Scenarios

Installation & Configuration

Step 1 : install StoreGrid as a Windows service. Here define to start Storegrid service as Local system account .

Step 2 : install as “Client and Server” and click next .

Step 3 : By default StoreGrid takes the machine name as Identity and “Default Group” as Group name. Keep it as it is.

Step 4 : Continue with the wizard and finish the installation.

Step 5 : Change “StoreGrid Server’s Backup Storage Location as “G:\” and click next. (Here “G” is External HDD Drive) Done now you can create schedule for Backup from “Backup ->Add Backup Schedule” option.

Step 6 : Now configure Schedules as per requirement.

Typical Deployments

c) Peer to Peer :

• StoreGrid can help you use the unused disk space in the system to form a 'trusted peer to peer' backup solution for everyone in your small network.

• This is not the ideal deployment for a medium sized company as:

– Storage is distributed, and will need to be separately managed & monitored Disk based storage costs are quite low, anyway!

NOTE: In Storegrid backup scenario the “machine name” should be unique. If any machine crashed then when the machine will be built again, for disaster recovery the machine name should be same as before.

Installation and configuration

Peer to Peer

• Step 1: Install Storegrid on all machines – in ‘Client + Server’ Mode (you will be prompted during installation)

• Step 2: Change the default Data Path .

• Step 3: Apply License Key to each installation

• Step 4: If the machines are in the same subnet, they will automatically discover each other. Otherwise, the backup server needs to be manually added (by the client).

• Step 5 : Now configure Schedules as per requirement.

installation and configuration is so easy… isn’t it ?
